actually flash has a track record of horrible security...I don't mind Flash. There are vulnerabilities in every piece of software, but Flash has been getting the brunt of it recently because there is a much less developed alternative. If you are scared of being targeted, get rid of it. However, I've had it, and still use it daily, and never had an issue. The chance of you being targeted and attacked is still much too low for me to care.
here's a list Adobe Flash Player : List of security vulnerabilities
577 total vulnerabilities
compare that to say silverlight at 22
Microsoft Silverlight : List of security vulnerabilities
oh and in case you were wondering it was AFTER adobe took over that flash got so bad
Macromedia flash had 43. total Macromedia Flash Player : CVE security vulnerabilities, versions and detailed reports
part of it is the interactive nature of the program and another part is poor development and not realizing that certain things can open security holes.
so yes, flash needs to be retired, but I'll say again there needs to be a way to preserve the plethora of flash content on the web... ads and non interactive flash is easy with google swiffy however the nature of flash games prevents it from working as well on them... I'm sure eventually someone will figure out a way to convert old flash games to html5 without breaking them.
