Advanced Task Killer...no more?

So I recently was having some trouble with my Droid. More than just some application screwing it up. Anywho After 2 visits to Verizon they deemed it a manufacture problem and have a replacement being sent out. In my one thread (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-general-discussions/87968-droid-exchange.html) a Moderator had told me to take "Advanced Task Killer" off my phone that it is no longer needed, why has this changed? I remember getting my phone and EVERYONE told me to download this application since I needed it. So what is the deal with this now?
