GPS does work in airplane mode. I find that it must be turned on prior to airplane mode (3g) being turned off or it will not initiate as indicated by a flashing icon. If the gps is synched prior to initiating airplane mode it will continue to operate. GPS is a passive operation for the phone. I suppose this is why the feds don't require it to be shut down. I use the gps in mountainous and remote areas where there is no coverage. Operating the phone when it is searching for service will drain the battery in a few hours. Airplane mode allows me to stretch this to 12 +. Sometimes you have to find a way out. :icon_eek:
