Am I missing something?

Every time I flash a rom, the phone boots up fine, but i end up with no service, and this is with every one I have tried. Did I miss a step somewhere?

Are there different roms for GSM as opposed to CDMA?

There are roms for both cdma and GSM. You need to make sure you are downloading/installing the correct one for your device

The roms in rom manager should be the correct roms for your device as it detects what you are on. Rom manager is known for causing issues when using it to install roms. Have you tried downloading the rom onto your phone or download to a PC and transfer to your phone and manually flash the from in recovery? That in my opinion is the best way to install a rom.

No problem. Just follow the instructions given by the developer of the rom you are downloading and all should be good. When downloading the roms, the version you want to look for is cdma or toro. =)
