An honest question from a nuetral party regarding Android and Iphone

The variety that comes with Droid also causes the problems that make iPhone so attractive. With Apple, the tyrannic control they exert also means just about everything just plain works, including most of the apps (as long as you upgrade every two years to keep up with iOS). ICS might save Android, but then again, it might also end up being Google's Vista...

There are also way more accessories since the bodies are all the same. I think I've seen roughly 1.7 billion different Hello Kitty iPhone cases at just a single kiosk in the mall. The Razr, by contrast, has 3 that I've seen in an entire mall.

The price we pay to be free from iTunes and Appstore limitations. (And, for now, better screen sizes)

I hope not, they need to not shatter anymore. seems logical to move away from glass. liquid metal on the other hand.

Wait... You're telling me that the glass doesn't come pre cracked?
And if it doesn't, man, that would take away from the awesome form factor! I always just thought it was the latest Apple style!

you dont need to upgrade the iphone to keep up with iOS even the 3GS has iOS 5 offically and that phone is 3.5 years old and it runs it very well. I dont know of a single android phone thats even close to that old running the most current OS. Theres android phones less then 3 months old that arent running the most current OS and will most likely never see ICS.

i like both platforms they both have advantages and disadvantages but if android keeps going the direction their going they are going to hurt themselves more then they already have. It just seems like android manufacturers are more concerned with quantity of devices rather then actual quality these days.

This is exactly what I mean, and one of the reason why I think iPhone has an advantage over Androids.

Hopefully ICS changes that...

Replying to Garrett: They are and thats the problem, but you gotta remember comparing Apples legacy devices to Androids legacy devices are 2 completely different ball games. Ios has had a few more years of extreme market success and time to develop the software to work well with the hardware while Android was more focused on software and features. If you haven't noticed there have been MANY updates for Ios, yet not that many features, while Android has just been stuffed full of features in each update, many that phone builders couldn't have foreseen coming so the hardware they put in the phones wasn't exactly top of the line. So just stuffing software driven features onto hardware that was never meant to handle it isn't going to work very well in any case. While Ios on the other hand, handcrafts its software updates specifically for the certain Iphone they are updating so the new software and features work well with the hardware, but hopefully Android will work a lot better with the hardware after ICS so phones can last longer and stay up to date.

When I show people my phone and tell them everything it can do that IOS can't, they are pretty blown away. But you have to remember a lot of stuff like the best widgets and Locale/Tasker aren't easy to use or even find in some cases. The average person fires up Android and doesn't do much exploring or learning isn't going to see much different from IOS and, in fact, will be turned-off by learning how to use it like their old IPhone.

Personally, I'm not that different with IOS. I haven't taken the time to learn all the shortcuts and gestures on my IPad. It's boring and cumbersome to use for me. I even despise the App Store that prevents me from scrolling thru hundreds of apps, instead making me click "next" after every 20.

Until IOS gets widgets and something like Locale it's a non-starter for me. And I mean REAL widgets (not Cydia) because that's of no use to you if your favorite app doesn't have a widget, whereas with Android most apps need a good widget if they want to be competitive with whatever function that app serves.

Kodiak, can you elaborate on the "locale" thing? Do you mean like the feature from moto smart action?
