I think the field is open to all manufacturers in the future. Right now we are in a transition period between 3G/4G, so not many new devices are hitting the market. Everyone is waiting for the iPhone at Verizon or a new innovation from RIM that uses their new operating system, not the OS6.
I think the NEW Market of 2011 will be devices for 4G and if RIM does not come out with a REAL smartphone, they are doomed.
As far as iPhone, the wait has been to long and it is becoming yesterdays TOY. Android is where it is now and in the future. But way out in the future is coming the new Linux based OS MEEGO which may dominate the smartphone OS kingdom.
