Android vs Apple - Why Did You Pick Android?

1. Android is open source
2. Android is more intuitive
3. I can download files from my web server on my android device. This is not possible on an iphone, and that's ridiculous
4. Developing in Android is overall a better experience
5. When there's a new iOS, you're old phone becomes obsolete and restricted in what apps in can run. Android has many more resources to support older devices.

I've been a Verizon customer for eons. I never thought I'd want a smartphone, but then my stepdaughter got a Droid Incredible and I came down with a serious case of smartphone envy. If the iPhone had been available on Verizon I probably would have gotten it, but Android was my only option in 2010 (the screen on the Blackberry was way too small). I went with the Droid X, eventually rooted and ROM'd it, and I've been hooked on Android ever since. Went from the X to the S3, and now I have the G3.

Day to day performance varies for me, that includes battery, stock apps hanging, etc...
Android: things seem to be getting better regarding the above issues, especially with Kit Kat.

Many IPhone users I talk to have no idea what they are missing, no idea what a smartphone can really do.

I don't know how I could manage without widgets. I really don't.

Some people just need the simplicity of an iphone. My Mother in law recently gave up her S3 for a new iPhone. TBH, I would probably recommend an iPhone to my own Mother if she decided to give up her old Nokia flip phone. They are much easier for the "technologically challenged" to just pick up and use. I don't get that "simplicity of ios" thing. I tried ios and everything was 3 steps forward,4 steps to the side, then 2 more back. It's like (insert profanity) I just want to upload my friggin resume for goodness sake" or "I just want to edit a photo here folks".
Ios is anything but simple.

Perhaps it's different for senior citizens. The in-laws started with Android and much prefer iOS now. Of course all they use it for is calls, texting, facetime and some internet browsing....nothing real complicated. To each their own I guess.

I'm a bit judgmental re phones.
When I see that a person has an iPhoney (sic) I think this person knows nothing about phones.
I know at least 5 friends who used to own an iPhone but after realising the limitations transferred to Android.

I used xperia arc as my first android phone then note 2 then got iphone 5 from work and I feel how rigid the applications are then I'm back to android again.
