Android wear update

And now my versions after updating the app...

No notification about a system update & checking manually in the settings says I'm up to date.

That's the same Android Wear version I have on my watch, but I don't see any of the new functionality that has been reported. Google has made these Wear updates a little confusing at times. Do our watches update only from the Wear OS app? Or are there still system version updates separate from the app store?

That's a good question. I'm like you, I thought it was supposed to be more through the Wear app, but according to that Reddit post, they say you might get the notification to download the new update. To me, that sounds more like a system update than something through the app.

I guess it could still be a server side thing through the app though, like when they push new features to the Google app & they show up without an app update.

I just read this in my News feed (originally on Droid Life). This does make it sound like an old fashioned System Version update. I'm not sure why people / Google are calling this "the new Wear 2.0" update. Why not just call it Wear 2.1? Much less confusing.

Quoted text:

"Google began pushing the new Wear OS 2.0 update to watches at the end of last week. If you are like me and impatient af, then you probably spent most of the weekend being frustrated by numerous checks, all that kept saying “System is up to date.”

Yeah. I know they said they want to move away from "version numbers" with Wear, but it makes no sense to call this update 2.0 when version numbers are already past 2.0.

This worked for me.

Reddit user suggested that watch owners try tricking watches or forcing the update to start by doing the following:

On your Wear OS watch, go into Play Store and find Wear OS app
Uninstall Wear OS app
Once done uninstalling, its Play Store page should say “Update”
Tap “Update” to re-update the app
Once that finishes, you may see a notification to further update to the new Wear OS 2.0

Can you please share what version on the firmware do you now have on your smartwatch?
This worked for me.

I'm a little confused by this update. What exactly is changing? I currently have Android OS 7.1.1, and Android Wear 2.16.0.214308073 on my watch. If this is a "New 2.0" update, what is actually changing?

Just to be clear, some folks are actually seeing new functionality changes, but the same Android Wear version number as the rest of us?
