Anti-Virus

Agree. Pretty much what I wanted to say. Except I'd probably avoid anything that doesn't have 1000's of installs. And I use Amazon too. I also avoid apps that only have star ratings and barely any real reviews. Those are shady.
I also only run Windows Defender on my PC.
I only go to the same sites. And game on it.

I agree. However, app downloading is just one aspect of a smartphone. I also get protected while surfing webpages. Someone else mention the potential for viruses coming through embedded in text messages as well. Who knows all the clever ways our phones may be compromised. I'm sure hackers are working on new ways to attack our devices. The scans should pick up and eliminate new threats.

I also never recommend Norton. It's a resource hog. Others do just as much to protect you without bogging your system down. That's on PC anyway.

I can't speak to resource usage compared to others, but I know nothing has slipped by Norton that impacted the function of my computers in the 8+ years I've used it. Something to be said for piece of mind.

Agree 1000s is really the sweet spot, but there are some apps that may have low installs because the developer just put it on the app store where it was just an installable apk via XDA.

The one app I would recommend for those with concerns is lookout. Over the years lookout detected malware and alerted the community before Google. Plus lookout is light and been around the mobile landscape for years where Norton, well I do not trust Norton based on my experiences with them when they use to come preinstalled on PCs back in the day.

I haven't used AV on my PC in 10 years. And, never been infected. Of course, as my buddy tells me, how would I know? :D
I'm an IT Professional. Do not try this at home.
Let's face it: porn sites, *free things* like wallpaper and a coupon toolbar, and many file sharing methods are the best ways to get a virus or malware.
Even email infection isn't as common as it once was as Yahoo, Gmail and Microsoft do a good job of catching virii for you before it gets to you.
