Any Way to Improve Camera Focus?

Two photos of Nokia 900DT charging plate. One photo taken by just pressing the shutter. It's out of focus. The other pic is in focus - I tapped the screen to "point" the camera to focus on the object. Bottom line: need to tap the screen for good shots....

I don't need to tap the screen to get a good shot. I barley ever tap it and my pics are crystal clear.

I'm thinking due to the uneven lighting in the photo is why it's so out of focused. The example by Psykho seems to be in a very well lit room and it turned out to be a good picture with a bit of blurriness
