So you just rename the app or the odex file too?
 
people have been telling me just renaming the file to, in this case, mms.apk.bak works fine but if you want to just rename mms.odex to mms.odex.bak as well.. aint going to hurt anything.
 
Nice work, of course I have to wait to get back to the states before sending any texts but it installed fine and I'm ready to go - looking forward to what's next :)

I'm unlocked/rooted/CWR perm installed, which all works fine. If I want to check one of these modified apps out, I just flash em like the o.p. stated. I got that part, but what about future OTA updates? I'm on stock OS/kernel. To backup the original mms app, I can just rename the mms.apk in /system/app to something else before flashing ... right or wrong?

Then when a new future OTA becomes available, I can just rename the oiginal mms.apk back so the OTA won't fail.

Am I understanding this correct? Hope it's that easy
 
You got it. And yes it is that easy :)

When an ota comes just delete my app and nMe your backups back to what they were.

So of course it's running fine, but my only quarrel is on the text entry field area. When I type text, it's white (obviously), but if I need to move my blinking cursor around, it's hard to distinguish where it is exactly -- since the blinking cursor is black too. Oh well..minor issue that one has to deal with on inverted colors I suppose.

xkape, is this something I could change inside this apk package myself? Could you tell me what particular file needs the hex edit so i could change background color of the text entry box?
No prob if not...I can google around and probably find it.
 
pretty sure that one was in 2 spost.. input_fiel.xml and input_field_phone.xml I could probably get the curser to be white (maybe.. dunno..lol) instead.
 
ok looks like the cursor is coming from the framework.. um trying to stay away from the framework on all these apps because I want them to be able to be used no matter what ROM you are running.
