Asus Comment on Twitter Sparks A Controversy; Is There Rampant Sexism in Tech?

LOL! WTF! So it's A OKAY to dress up women, and have them just stand in front of a product, and just smile away, BUT OMG say they got a nice ass, and you've just crossed a line.

I guess I have to say it like this... it is if you think so, its not if you don't think so.

If you think its right to treat people, not just women this way, then that's a decision you make. Its all subjective.

OK everyone, just a reminder to keep it family friendly. Obviously it is easy to go down a slippery slope with this kind of topic but lets refrain from doing so. Some posts were edited for content and some were deleted, lets just make sure that's the end of it. Thank you.

I'd argue that's a choice SHE MADE when she decided to become a model. What is so criminal about saying what everyone is thinking? You really can't object to that without opposing models and sex selling in all types of ads and promotions. It's a distinction without a difference.

The photo was taken NOT to promote the product directly, but to take advantage of the situation, and so the comment could be used. In other words, it was no accident that the camera was there, and pointing in that direction at that moment. Someone was trying to do just what they succeeded in doing...create a controversial photo and exploit the person and situation in it.

We can choose to feed into the poor judgement of the photographer and of the tweeter, or we can choose not to. I choose not to.

I'd say that in some way you might be right, but think of this, do you know how many of them actually think its a curse to be pretty?
Some flaunt what they have and use it to get what they want, others wish they were doing something, anything else and still making that kind of money.

Some of them even wonder why they get paid to do it. A lot of them don't see themselves as pretty, I promise you that a vast number of these women are told how they're too fat, this and that is wrong with them. This is getting into another conversation all together, but aren't we supposed to be civilized?

All we can do is speculate on how she MIGHT feel. But IMHO there's no need to say what everybody else is feeling. Because good or bad, its about someone else. :)

You know I would like to use some colorful words to express my feelings but they would only get filtered so here is the pg version. Its ok to flaunt gay stuff on tv, comic books (green lantern) and just about everywhere you look but if you comment about a beautiful women's back side from a hetrosexual view OMG! This is one of the things that is wrong with this world today. Now I'm not try to make this an anti-gay post, but I can't help the feelings this post stirs up for me.

The thing is that no one is offended by the nice looking woman. Its what was done in regards to the nice looking woman that is bothersome. :)

Every woman at those shows know they are there because they are pretty and sexy. You think someone is going to put a 300 pound woman up there to hold their product, no, they aren't. The comment wasn't vulgar or anything either. Everyone was thinking it, one person finally said it in a public way. I personally do thing that is a very nice rear too.

I remember when I was in engineering college. ratio of men to women was like 20:1. Even the ugly girls had an entourage.

Im more offended by the over the top political correctness...it's not a big deal.

oh good, more twitter faux outrage.

In the news it may be political correctness that is being questioned, however it's not "political correctness" that I believe we're going for here, so much as it is "family friendliness". There are enough forums out there where people can satisfy their taste for the inappropriate by making derogatory comments about anything and everything (or person) they want, but as the internet "matures", it seems more and more that "complacency" is the new "appropriate". I for one don't mind "offending" someone politically by making a statement that criticizes discrimination, or creating an environment that I can honestly say doesn't discriminate based on anything, whether it be race, gender, sexual preference, mental capacity, physical handicap, or for that matter promote any other inappropriate or age-sensitive activities or language.

Something you need to be aware of, many people are in a state of hyper sensitivity. In this day and age you can practically be sued for anything.

Yes she has a very nice rearend. But does that make it alright to tweet about it? I already said its genius because even negative publicity is publicity. And in marketing that's worth its weight in gold.
There are two sides to every coin. What if she was your wife or daughter or girlfriend? Would you want some guy putting comments like that on twitter?? Or would you want to make him apologize for disrespecting her??? Or worse in some peoples cases, but we won't go I to that.

honestly if it was my wife or girlfriend I'd simply agree, my daughter, well... I'd keep my mouth shut. seriously if a woman is attractive and someone makes the comment then what's the big deal. as long as they aren't grabbing at her or trying to force themselves there should be something wrong.

and sued for almost anything, it makes me laugh. I'd almost welcome a lawsuit for saying something somebody didn't like, I mean really... imagine the story

Inmate 1: so what're you in for

Inmate 2: I made a comment about some chicks ass and her dad sued me, got seven years.

It is seriously about that stupid, I actually can't imagine what the judge would say if you both actually showed up for court, though it is perfect for judge judy :icon_ lala::yahoo:

My statement wasn't to imply that she would sue, but there is a possibility...if she wanted to push it, sexual harassment..the right lawyer could easily make that case....my statement was meaning that alot of people wear their feelings on their sleeves, and are sensitive about things of this nature. With just cause.

Also with a lawsuit of this kind, there would be no jail time, it would be purely monetary.

Also there are many different types of models, hand, eye, fitness, lingerie, leg, foot, nude, semi nude and so on.

If she was hired to put her butt in a pic, that's one thing, but that's not the case.

Just my take on it.

Also, its one thing to think a woman is good looking, but quite another to take a pic of her butt and put it online.

I doubt she has a bum to sit on. I bet when she signed on, she was given the forms stating all pics are property of Asus, and that she waives all claims and damages arising to such use.

And lawsuits of this nature happen all the time. Look at the female news reporter who sued the jets and it wasn't even her that thought to sue but someone talked her into it. The fact of the matter, there is respect and disrespect... and many have no filter and do not know when to draw the line. As a woman, I have too many times to count, felt very intimidated by comments that have been made to me. I am certain that I am one of millions that have.
