iPhone definitely opened the door for smartphone development. No question.
Before the iPhone we were stuck with choices such as Palm, Blackberry, Microsoft, and while they were OK smartphones, they were still under the control of the telecom provider.
You can buy the iPhone at AT&T B&M stores, or you can buy the iPhone online from Apple.com. You just can't buy the iPhone from the AT&T website. No big deal.
I don't see why everyone thinks this is news worthy. The iPhone is still a great device. It bridged a huge gap between smartphones and the telecom providers. With the iPhone it helped make way for the telecom industry to step aside and let the phone be something more. The iPhone did help pave the way for Google to bring us the Droid. While its unfortunate, that everyone wants to piss on the iPhone... I still think it is quite a remarkable device and I hope that someday soon the iPhone will be able to break free of the AT&T agreement and we will see alternative carriers with the iPhone.
i still think this is funny.........
y do it matter.....maybe he has a life n didn't want to search for it

.
Apple had nothing to do with paving the road for smartphones except for providing a high standard for the competition to play at.
