Battery Issues Any Better Now?

The Incredible 2 is an excellent phone, but the biggest advantage it has over the Bolt at the moment is battery life. With firmware updates, the switch to Gingerbread, and so on, these battery issues shouldn't be as pronounced. So I guess it comes down to whether or not you want 4G and which one is nicer to hold.

Plus, if you shop around, you can already find a Thunderbolt for relatively cheap.

Just wanted to say that I dig your screen name Kid A.... Thom Yorke is a genius.

1700 mah I bought from chichitec on amazon. Do not buy from any of the other distributors as you'll get 1500 instead. I don't know if that is amazon fault or the distributors, but if you click on some of the images here are some that clearly say "only from chichitec"

How the guy from LA gets that usage is beyond me. Probably the custom kernel and config. I'm running stock non-rooted. forgot to mention that. I also came from a phone I could charge once a week, so this is a big change no matter what android device I bought.

Out of the box it is just shy of being able to work all day and go out till 11 pm without being mindful of your usage, and is like it to be where I don't really have to worry about how much I used the phone today to go out with it.

Like I said tho, its still a great phone and I suggest nothing else right now.

You really think the battery is worth it? How is it working out for ya...
Like how is the phone reading the battery?.. accurate?

Are you talking about me when you said LA guy? If yes, I'm actually a girl :)

I don't use any custom kernel or config. I did root the phone, but only to remove bloatware. I am still running the stock-rom w/ stock battery... stock everything =]

What I did do, and continue to do everyday, is I would run the battery down to less than 10% (less than 5% the first 2 weeks) and charge it back to full. I understand the battery has no memory, but I like to believe that helped calibrate it a bit. When I first took it out of the box, the battery life was worrisome and I had to monitor my usage all day for fear it'll die. However after 2 weeks, I did see improvements. I also like to believe it's because the system is learning what I use most and what I don't so it's being smarter about power management. Keeping GPS off (including deleting the "current location" weather widget and selecting just 1 or 2 cities to update) have really helped increase my battery life. I d/l phone info to toggle between 3g/4g when I first got the phone to conserve battery life, but I no longer use that after 2 weeks because there is no need to. I'm on 4g all day and as of right now, 7:53pm battery has been unplugged for 13h 18m with 46% left. If I don't try to run it down, I'm sure that'll probably last me until tomorrow morning.

Oh and on a side note, I have a task killer installed (ATK) but I NEVER use it, I just keep it there. I do not use any battery saver/battery management/system monitor apps to monitor my usage. I used android assistant for like 3 days and the first 2 days it helped, but on the 3rd day it was running my down 10% every hour... and the app reported itself using 73% of my system resources. If you just use what the phone is equipped with to toggle your settings (power saver mode, sync-frequency), that should be enough to manage battery power. LOVE MY TBOLT!!!

Sportadic22 - as of this moment, yes I think its worth it. $40 for two 1700mah batteries works well for us. But I am very interested in how the update will affect battery life now.

LA Girl...sorry, wasn't paying attention. Good to know on your settings. I'm still playing with mine, go on and off with the task killer. I use juice plotter to monitor performance, granted of eats it up but after I find something that works I turn it off and get some better performance. It does a decent job to see when you're losing juice.

The battery sucks on all HTC phones. They play a game where they see how small capacity battery they can make that is barely sellable and get purchasers to buy the extended battery. Unless there is good reason, this is the last HTC phone I purchase.

For right now, if you can accept buying the extended battery, don't waste your money on the garbage you're reading. Get it and get a VZW discount.

Went to bed last night with my phone at over 75% charge. I quit all the apps running with task killer. Woke up at 7am and my phone was dead. It could have died at 5 or 6 am who knows? Battery life sucks.

I agree. This will be my first and last HTC phone.

It really depends.. heavy use will run it out in 5 hours, but if you just delete your task killer, and download a 4g/3g/1x toggle switch from the market you can go all day. Whenever im not using data is can be on 1x and get 15-20 hours with light use and still using some 3g/4g. Task killers waste battery and disable always on mobile data. I used my phone alot and i dont find the stock battery that bad.. oh and download quick restart from the market or restart your phone daily

I played with my friends iphone4 today cause I thought those phones had bad battery too.

Extremely misinformed.

This phone does a terrible job monitoring battery. When it's awake or being used.

Android system maybe is the reason for that...but playing with my friends iphone made me realize how bad this battery is.

Thank god for extended battery (which looks horrible) and even this...

I was thinking the same. If they at least would push a SW update to make it last at least a full day or give us all free batteries I may feel a bit better about my purchase, but at present I am regretting it.

A software update isn't going to give your battery any more capacity.

Turn mobile network off before you go to bed. That will save your battery. With mobile network off I will lose around 8%. With it on and a full charge, my battery will lose 90-99% :icon_eek: No joke!

im apparently a heavy user and assumed i was. i get 40-50 emails, bunch of phone calls, texts and i need the data on at all times. i have done all the tips and tricks to help battery life but there is no way in **** i can make a full day with the stock battery. id bet on a busy day, i cant make it from 6am - lunchtime.

i guess the TB is not meant to have data running all the time......thats just retarded.

i wont use the extended battery, its way too big and ugly, and i keep the phone in my pocket. so im gonna keep an extra battery with me all the time and make sure i plug it in when in the car (always do that anyways)

but the battery life is worse on this than the droidX with the same settings and same use if not less.

There's no garbage about it, different people get different results. Granted, the Bolt will never get amazing battery life, but just cause your experience with HTC has been bad doesn't mean everyone's is.

If you live in a 4G area and are a heavy user, you may need an extended battery or at least a 1700 mAh one. If you live in a 3G area, you should do just fine with the standard battery. It depends.
