These may help:
1) Because of an apparent bug with the Droid X, leave GPS off when you're not using it: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...6788-droid-x-battery-problems-discovered.html
Hopefully the next update will allow you to leave GPS on (as is intended behavior).
2) Dial *228 and choose option 2 to update the cell towers thingy. If that returns an error, try calling *228 again and choose option 1 to activate your phone
3) Maybe there's an app causing the problem. To pinpoint it, Spare Parts from the market can help. Don't use a task killer or antivirus. Other typical culprits: widgets, live wallpapers
