Battery Life?

I must be doing something wrong, I'm getting worse battery time then I had on my thunderbolt and I have an extended battery on this phone.
My phone has been off the charger for two hours and its already down to 70%. I've taken a few pictures and played two of my games and already 30% is gone.
I dont have anything crazy on my phone that I would think would chew up this much battery life.
Help?

List your battery stats and we can see whats going on.

end of line...

Well I'm on my 5th day and my battery has made a HUGE leap. Today it went 6 hours and only dropped to 90% and this was with background data ON, so I suspect with light to moderate use I could easily see a full day out of the phone. Regular battery. I'm happy.

Lets see, it shows:
Cell Standby- 43%
Phone Idle- 39%
Android OS- 9%
Display- 6%
Android system- 2%

That's pretty much what mine looks like. My battery hasn't been draining quite as quickly as yours, but it's not far off.

I'm using the stock battery, i'm on day 2 with it off of the charger and still have 75% battery left with moderate use. Anyone with battery problems needs to go through all of the settings and double check them, either that or your really using the phone hard. One good thing to do is let the battery run all the way down and then put the charger on it.

For a brand new phone I would charge til full, run til off, charge til full.
After getting a new battery, OS update, or new phone this step is critical. Run it down til it shuts off, then charge it all the way. We should have a name for this "BATTERY GAUGE CALIBRATION" (BGC) Recommended once per month or two. Don't "BGC" often; lithium ion batteries don't like it.

Also
, make sure that it isn't one of your apps. For example, uninstall auto task killers and antivirus. Watch out for apps, widgets, live wallpapers, and running services. "CRAP APP UNINSTALL" (CAU)

still bad battery after BGC and CAU? maybe you have a BB...bad battery.

ps: even stock apps can crap. Google calendar, contacts, email sync sometimes ill. Clear cache via phone settings > applications

Turn off the Global radio people

Turn the global radio off and set it to CDMA only. It comes set for global and you are draining your battery searching for a GSM signal that isn't there.

So, if you BGC and CAU then maybe you have a BB...bad battery.

My understanding is that this is completely unnecessary with Lithium-ion... it doesn't have a memory like older battery techs.

Maybe I'm wrong and it is important for the first instance, if only to help the battery and OS better understand their respective limits and requirements, but doing this every month seems to really go against everything I've read.

Slightly complicated. Lithium Ion's do not like to be run out of power. However, you are also correct that the phone needs to calibrate it's battery gauge. Aim for doing it once every 2 months.

And keep in mind... your droid will never run your battery to zero... when the phone runs all the way down till it shuts off it still maintains some voltage and the battery will not be harmed.. the purpose of running it down "once in a while" is to keep the phones battery meter calibrated to the state of the battery... as the battery gets older and has less usable power... the phone will know how to break that up into percentages for you...

independent of the battery degrading, the once every two month discharge/charge recalibrates the phone's understanding of where "full charge" is. The phone loses track, as you might expect, over time and with any partial charging that we do. It is best to charge til full if you can.

When I have background data enabled, I drop to 90% within 20 minutes of taking it off the charger, and I've had it about a week now, so I've gone through a few solid battery cycles. Anyone else's do the same?

IDK, its looking to me like we're gonna see an update from moto regarding the radios and battery life. Cell standby being by far the most draining resource, next to phone idle, seems kinda weird to me.

Oh, I forgot update PRLs by dialing *22899

So if the battery discharge/charge is done, we rule out any bad software, we turn off GSM antenna, we're sure syncing isn't running wild, we update PRLs then what's left? Bad battery, bad phone, bad reception in your area. Anything else or would it be time to take the phone back and try a replacement?
