battery telling me to charge when it doesn't need it

Ok here's the deal.. None of Moto's test phones have produced the issue so they asked me to send in my phone in order for them to tear it apart to find out what's wrong.

I am waiting for the paperwork to be sent so I can ship the phone out.

More updates to come... dancedroid

False low-battery? me too - after "low-battery, needs charge" message, if I switch the phone off then on again the "Status" charge indication reads 80% or whatever. Happens about once per week or two...

Are they providing you with a replacement while they troubleshoot?

Are they providing you with a replacement while they troubleshoot?

According to them the replacement they are sending will be a brand new unit because they want to tear the phone apart to see what's the issue, I won't be getting my phone returned, which is an exception to the rule.. which is why I am waiting on the paperwork. They have screwed up sending me a replacement battery before soooo I want to make sure it is correct before confirming lol

We shall see in 3-5 days.. dancedroid

I am glad to see that they are trying to do the right thing! It sounds like you will most likely never know if they discover the problem or not...

Well they did tell me numerous times they would keep in touch with me on this issue.. we shall see lol

I wonder if they are actually *using* their test phone, or just poking and leaning on it?

My phone has given the "5%" warning three times now over a period of three months I've owned the phone.

The first time I plugged in the charger . . . and as another poster said, after a few moments it indicated correctly that the battery was charged to some higher level.

The second time I turned the phone off, then back on. This time it also 'corrected' the problem.

The last time, several days ago, I noticed the red-blinking-low-battery warning when I woke up and the Droid had been charging all night. This time, just for grins, I ignored the warning light . . . which continued to blink for the next four hours as I used the phone normally: making calls, searching the web, playing games. It worked perfectly and never shut itself off.

Finally, just plugged it into a charger for a few moments and it then read the correct battery level . . . 80% as I recall.

Point is . . . if you know your battery is charged . . . you can just ignore the batt-low warning when it occurs.

Well the phone is scheduled to be here tomorrow.. nothing new to report aside from that..

Thanks for the update. Do you intend on installing the same collection of apps that you were using before? It will be interesting to see if the new phone behaves itself:icon_wink:

Just wanted to throw my $.02 in, I've had this issue happen to me a few times as well, although it seems to happen more frequently since the 2.1 upgrade. It also happened to a friend with a Droid. Same symptoms, phone thinks it only has 5% charge. Charge it for like 30 seconds and then unplug it, it will go back to what it was before. Wish there was a fix for this annoying problem...

I've had the Droid for about 3 weeks now - when I activated the phone it was with 2.1, and this same thing has happened to me. Glad to know I'm not the only one!

Well it's been a little over a week now and the replacement Motorola sent me has not done it yet.
I did ask them to give some correspondence when they actually test and tear apart my original phone but it may not happen.
We shall see.

The best I can tell everyone having this issue, use the band-aid method(battery pull, or power off then back on, or plug it in and let it charge) for now and hopefully I can let everyone know what the official word will be when they tell me.

Thanks for the update. I have had the droid for not quite two months now, and it has happened twice to mine. Both times happened right after I got a Gmail received notification.

Well, it has been few weeks since the last false low battery warning and it happened again. This time the phone had been in standby for a couple of hours. I looked down and it was flashing red. I powered the droid off and back on. When it finished booting up, it showed 100% charge again. It sure has me stumped...
