I too was a little bummed to have to find hurdles with my outlook desktop app but found that gmail had become a much better setup for a mobile office. Now I can sign into any PC's browser and have access to my mail, calendar, tasks, phone (google voice), google docs, etc, without issue. I just use the free 'ssi Gtasks' app (or 'Gtasks' -- both are free and work equally well for syncing to your Google task lists) to add the additional task list functionality missing from the Android software and it all works really well. There are other options not mentioned that may work (Companionlink - dejaoffice) if you can't part ways with outlook. Good luck!
