Best tethering app?

My job bought me a Droid X, I installed PDAnet and it works great except for VPN, will not connect and I need to have this option. Does anyone know if Easy Tether or another app allows VPN? Thanks for the help, very new to all this!

PDANet works great but is it still needed with 2.2? Has anyone tried the new tethering option?

What new tethering option for 2.2? The Droid 2 supports 3g mobile hotspot(rule the air) but it costs $20-$30 a month and that I'm not a fan of.
