Best way to set backgrounds?

I have a wallpaper that I want to use, and the resolution is 1280x720 (that is what I heard I should use if I want to have the background fixed).

Now, when I try to set it, it still makes me crop it with the built in wallpaper maker, and I am not able to select the whole picture..

I am using ADW launcher, but I cannot find where the setting is to turn off wallpaper scrolling (although maybe it is selected by default because my wallpapers don't seem to scroll?)

Is there somewhere I should be setting the wallpaper within ADW?

Use Quickpic to add a wallpaper. Always works for me, on selecting the whole photo.

No dice. It seems like these utilities only crop automatically resize to compensate for the scrolling background. I am only able to crop it so that the picture is pretty much square.

Hmm, what size are your pictures? The correct resolution should be 1440x1280, but that takes into account the scrolling background though...

I tried to use that resolution right now (I actually did it earlier today too), and I still can't select the entire photo. Something is off..

Here's what it looks when I'm adding a background via Quickpic, 1440x1280. That's the entire pic!

You mean cut off into other screens? If so, no because this wallpaper is made to fit all the screens.

I think what you want is a wallpaper that fills up just the one home screen right? If so, the resolution of just the home screen is 720x1080. You'd have to take a picture you look and crop/resize it to that resolution. But because it's so narrow, you'd lose a lot of the pic.

Got it! Some user in another thread recommended an app, and it works perfectly.. Unlike all the others I've tried.

Not to threadjack but you can save a lot of headaches using Wallpaper Wizardrii to set a wallpaper cropped however you like that doesn't scroll. If it's not compatible with the ICS yet it should be soon.

It is compatible with ICS. Works perfectly with no issues.
