[ROM] [BETA] CyanogenMod 7 for the Droid X

Hey,
I'm all ready to jump onboard with CM7, just a few questions. I really hope this wasn't answered already, but I only read about half the posts.

I'm coming from rooted Gingerbread. the update process will be to follow the first post of this thread and then update the latest nightly?
Also, after every nightly do I need to reinstall gapps too, or just the fixes?

Thank you.

dunno if anyone mentioned this but launcher pro now freezes after a boot up. have to FC then it reloads.

Unfortunately, I was having all kinds of lag issues with LP as I was the last time I was on an AOSP ROM so I dumped it. Fede hasn't updated this app in quite some time and it does not appear to be keeping up with Gingerbread. I use Go Launcher and it's really pretty awesome. It has way more in the way of functionality than LP ever did and has just about all the necessary widgets LP has. Give it a shot, see what you think. It's free!

If you are using ROM Manager it gives you an option to download GAPPS. So when you update to the latest nightly, make sure you are wiped and downlaod GAPPS every time you update the ROM (which in most cases is every day!!!). After your first install of CM7, you do not have to wipe anything other than Dalvik cache. These guys are geniuses.

Anyone using the headphones? Does it sound like the gain is turned up way too high? Cause it sounds like the speakers are blown.... :-( Yes I have checked if it's my headphones / speakers

Go into DSPManager -> Headset and turn Bass Boost off (or make it less powerful).

Also.. I can't mount my SD over USB. The drives show up on my PC, but when I try to open them I get "please insert a disk". The USB connected screen, when I tap the button on the bottom, loads infinitely.
The USB connection popup is always on Memory Card Access when I open it, even if I selected a different option before. And I don't get a toast notification when I select Memory Card Access, like I do with the rest of the options.
What's going on :I

Can you explain what the advantage of wiping dalvik cache is? I've never wiped anything when installing nightlies and all seems OK. I just don't know what dalvik is.... thanks....

Dalvik cache is a program cache area for the program dalvik. Dalvik is a java based virtual machine that is the bases for running your programs (the ones that have the .apk extension). In order to make access times faster (because there's not JIT (just in time) compiler installed by default), the dalvik-cache is the result of dalvik doing a optimization of the running program.

Thanks for the explanation. Sorry to sound so noobish, but it seems that wiping the dalvik will make the system run faster on new installs. Correct?

And more importantly, if I do a dalvik wipe before installing nightlies, is there anything noticeable that I will lose on reboot?

Thanks for the help.

You really have to wipe the Dalvik cache every time you install a new nightly. It's not really an option not to. The ROM won't really function correctly.

The only thing wiping Dalvik cache will noticeably cause is a longer boot up time when the ROM comes back live on your phone. You will not lose any data, settings, etc. I think it causes an additional 2 minutes boot up time. So don't freak out if you're on the M screen for longer than usual

Many thanks, mtbhk! Do you wipe cache also on nightly installs?

Nope - just the Dalvik. These devs (CVPCS in particular for this phone) are amazing. I haven't wiped data or cache since my first install.

Got it and thanks for the reply. Totally agree that CVPCS is amazing. Best ROM I've been on.

For some reason WeatherBug and SPB Shell will not have the weather when set to "My Location", When a city is added manually it works fine. Anyone else experience this?
