Better then a Radar Detector on your PHONE

in the army, we used a blue force tracker. it will use gps to track where your friends/enemies are. now i can see this concept work for emergency vehicles (just like the radar) so i dont think its that far fetched. now however you get the gps information of the police is what gets me.

This app that I am looking for does not rely on user imputs... it actually detects their gps signal by using your gps... if the cop moves it shows it on your phone instantly. But thanks for the input

Do you have any idea how illegal that would be if it were a real app.

Its not illegal but there is no app that does that because as it is not illegal to track their GPS what you would have to do to get that information is.

Most police stations use Panasonic toughbooks they have built in GPS and cell radio.

You are exactly right... he did mention the laptop had to be on..now we are getting somewhere... and sorry for the fast typing and misspelling of words... some people are so picky

thanks, made it for peter. i run bb only. i need to check out some others!

Try miui

Sorry for the off topic post but, I heard that Miui was good. The only rom I've run on my og droid is chevys ss. Thinking about going to sapphire and the avalon theme.

Its really amazing and it keeps getting better.

No such thing. Try defining "better". Maybe you're using a strange definition of the word.

I suspect you're referring to Trapster. Trapster adds another layer to your countermeasures but it isn't "better than a radar detector". They're apples and oranges.

This app that I am looking for does not rely on user imputs... it actually detects their gps signal by using your gps... if the cop moves it shows it on your phone instantly.
Again, no such thing. GPS doesn't detect anything.

Well radar detectors are not good if they are pulling the trigger and not constant running radar...
Not entirely true. Depends on the cop, the radar he's using and the detector you're using. Also depends on whether you're using a rabbit or not, etc. Best practice is layering and being aware. Relying on a single countermeasure is a good way to fail and end up with a ticket.

Agreed. I bought an Escort 9500ix some time ago and didn't get a ticket for nearly a year until I was blazing down the road like a retard and a cop on his bike not only saw me flying by everyone else, but had also hit me with his laser and I couldn't slow down in time. Then I find out laser shifters are completely legal in Texas so now I need to buy one of those. I usually don't go much over the speed limit (usually 10 over in town, 20 highway) but I've come to feel comfortable driving faster. In light of the various safety videos and anti-texting campaigns as of late, the last thing I want to be doing is driving the speed limit next to someone who is texting so he or she can slam into me. Plus this allows me some space and I can foolishly text and drive myself if I feel inclined. Point is that a comfortable driver is a safer driver, so if going 10mph over gets me a ticket every so often, so be it. Slowing down is not an option for me.

As for the app the OP speaks of, it sounds a little sketchy. I kind of doubt with all the expensive detectors, shifters, blockers, etc... there is just some cheap little app in the market that puts them all to shame.

Good thing you don't drive in NC. 10 over in town would get you a BIG ticket. 20 over on the interstate here would put you at 85-95MPH and you'd go to jail. Anything over 15MPH and they promptly remove your license. I have a lot of friends that are cops. They all said that Trapster works well. The only downfall..... it is user based. If the cop moves after he is reported, it will no longer show updated position.
I threw my radar detector away years ago. I found it much easier and much cheaper to just do the speed limit or SLIGHTLY over. Most police here have the same motto..... 9 your fine..... 10 your MINE! They believe it and stick to it!

16 year old child???

My friend told me there was an app that was better then a radar detector. An App that would allow you to see where police were on your phone by tracking the gps on their car....ANYONE know what the heck he was talking about?

As several others have pointed out in this thread, what you are asking about is impossible to do with any phone.

KZIWarrior was 99.5% correct. It is theroetically possible to remotly detect a GPS receiver. As with any radio receiver, a GPS receiver has an oscillator which transmits RF signal in the same frequency it is listening for, but at much less power. This is how the police can have "radar detector detectors" in states where they are illegal, but radar detectors only transmit about 1/2 to 1 watt (as opposed tot he killowatts transmitted by a radar gun) so you need to be within about 100 feet to detect a detector with any device smaller than a suitcase.

GPS receivers put out maybe 1/100th of a watt. You would need to be inside the police car to detect that with a handheld device. You would need the kind of receivers used by radio astronomers to detect one at a distance.

What your friend showed you, if it was detecting speed traps at all, was probably Trapster, which as has been described here uses your GPS to determine how close you are to known police locations. If you actually saw police moving on it, than it was a scam or a practical joke to show how gullible you are.

Even the speed cameras that are now legal in Maryland are set to trigger at 11 miles over. Our Governor has been quoted as saying "10 miles over the limit should be fast enough for anyone". (which makes it all the more irritating that people who are already going the limit or under always slam on their brakes when they see the damn cameras..... I think they are going to cause more accidents than just letting people speed.....

I brake check people all the time...I'm doing 75 on the beltway and they want to tailgate? Stand on the brake once and they won't tailgate for a few days at least.....Thats after they clean the coffee off the inside of their windshield.

We had Red Light Cameras implemented here in Houston a couple of years ago. This past election a proposition was voted on to do away with the cameras because of the negative effects they have had on traffic accidents. Not because people were running red lights, but because some jackleg would slam on his/her brakes when the light turned yellow and would cause the guy behind them to rear end them. I personally think the cameras could be great and stop idiots from running true red lights, but I also feel that the way they work was not conveyed to the general population very well. There was a 60% increase in traffic accidents at the locations the cameras were installed after they were up and running.

Personally, I would rather have seen us keep the cameras and vote on a proposition to do away with women drivers doing anything and everything while navigating a vehicle other than DRIVING! That would solve a lot of the problems on Texas highways and byways!
:gotmyvote:

As for the OP, if there was an app that would give you exact up to the second locations of the police based on GPS or anything else for that matter, it would cost ELEVENTY BILLION DOLLARS!!!

Are you one of those who stay in the left lane?
