Biggest disappointments with the D3

-The signal strength bars are hard to tell the difference between strength bars and non bars. Not enough contrast between the two colors, hard to see.

You might want to search the market for signal strength widget.

-The screen is larger than my original D1, so I was hoping things on the screen would be bigger, and therefore easier to see without putting on my "cheaters", nope. Does anyone know how to make the fonts of apps bigger? To make the contact quick dial photos larger?
I believe you would need root to change the font.

-To get the battery to last all day (yes, I paid extra for the extended battery), I have to turn off the WiFi. That stinks, since it does not have 4G.
Did you sync your wifi settings from your previous phone? If so, you may want to try deleting all of your saved connections and re-entering them.

-I think it was not smart to get rid of the "?" key. Most of the time I text, I am asking a question. Never ever have I used the "/" key.
A laptop/desktop computer keyboard is set up this way. / can come in handy w/ typing in URLs/when listing alternative items.

So far, after 3 days, I don't have many complaints. Coming from a rooted, overclocked D1, this thing is just amazing. I don't even mind "Blur" that much. I hated it on my wifes D2. The camera's blue tint bugs the crap out of me. I tried Camera360, but still had blue pics. The power button and I have a love/hate relationship right now, but I'll get used to it.

I hope the camera gets fixed in an update, but if not I'm sure I can find some app that will fix it.

I believe people are having luck with fx camera or camerafx can't remember which one. Hopw that helps with the camera issues. :)

end of line...

You have to adjust the white balance for the camera. Leaving it on auto will give you wrong colors (ie, blue)

I have been growing more attached to the phone the more I've used it. Having a "spare" OG Droid around reminds me both the good and bad of the Droid 3 (good - speed/size/keyboard/etc.. bad - no root/stock rom).

What's funny....only having this phone for a few weeks, whenever I pick up my old Droid I have issues with it's power button now. I'm completely adjusted to the larger button and having it in the center/top on the Droid 3 and prefer it over the OG Droids button

The biggest disappointments for me not related to the boot loader and root issues are

The annoyingly weak vibrate on the phone, I should be able to feel it vibrate in my pocket
Power button is hard to hit
Physical camera button missing, Ive never used the camera much but the button on the original was great
Annoyingly quiet speaker
The mixed up button order (im sure ill get used to it at some point but why did the order need to change from the original droid?)

I still love the phone though

The likely changed the order to eliminate the problem some have with accidently bumping the touch back button and having to relaunch an app. This way it only opens the menu when that happens.

As far as the physical camera button, mine was never consistent and had to be pushed so firmly that the camera moved and led to blurry pics.

biggest disappointments:

- camera/camcorder apps basically suck. they've hung my phone, caused a core dump and are painfully slow to launch.
- my battery life has been abismal. the claimed numbers are no where near what i've observed and my wife and i have the same phone. i've killed the phone streaming Pandora after just 3.5hrs (phone shut itself down). i could stream 7-8hrs + with my D1/D2 no problem.
- alt-shift-del does NOT reboot the phone.
- the battery cover can be difficult to remove and i feel the tabs will eventually wear.

So anything else that can't be worked around with an app besides the speaker being too quiet, the question mark not on it's own key, the tough power button, no LTE, poor battery life, a lot of bloatware, and random reboots?

my phone has a ****ty power button too, i thought maybe i just had a weird defective one.

verizon said that until it actually breaks they cant replace it "yeah it sucks but i can't help you until you break your phone" is what the lady at the store told me

for people having trouble with the power button, i noticed that you can't use it like you used to on the D1/D2, at least not how i used to.

because the button was "recessed" on the D1/D2, i ran my finger across the top (not literally, but just to make contact with the button), until i found the button and then pressed it. you can't do that with the D3, because you end up trying to push the button on an angle.

if you press the power button directly (diliberately put your finger center of the button and push down) it appears much easier to use.

even when i push it directly it is much harder to press than my mom's D3 and it is visually different form hers. It looks like it's stuck farther into my phone than hers

I ordered mine over the phone, the day it was released, fed exed teh next day, like some type of drooling tech addict geek. Perhaps the best part was when I got it I took it to the store to find a case and all teh vzw ppl asked if they could touch and hold it because they hadnt seen them yet.

I came from the D2, but I work amongst iPhoner's on a daily basis who rub video chat in my face. So when I read the D3 ffc rumours I waited till the DAY it came out, the only reason to switch to D3 was for the ffc/videochat. Soooo thats my biggest complaint. it doesnt work yet.

1. Video Chat doesnt work (on another thread i tried every app there is, and either the sound is horrible or the image gets stuck, whenever motorola/verizon/google work outwho/how to make $ off vc, maybe they will release the app)

2. Not having a dedicated camera button sucks more then i thought it would, i dont mind touching the camera icon, but it takes 30 seconds tooo long to come up. ANd a few times I have taken out my phone to quick grab a picture, (like when Godsmacks Sully Erna came to the side of the stage at the Mayhem concert) and everyone got off a pic except ME who was stuck waiting for her camera to load and be ready.

3. The battery: although its MUCH better with the extended and I have power cords everywhere, work, car, home, BFs house, still I cant use my phone the way i want to and i limit myself.

4. Random reboots - I dont seem to mind them? but they do happen every day. Although I have my phone on a kickstand in eye view at my work desk all day long - so it doesnt interfere with what im doing - i just happen to see the red droid eye reboot at least once a day - i wonder for those who are saying its not happening, if they just arent seeing it, because i happen to see my phone 10 straight hours a day.

5. The Power Button - I actually think my D2 was worse, so im used to the hate/hate relationship. I bought the gel cover for my D3 but it did not fit well over the button at all, so i returned it for the hard shell whose case does not cover the button, and indeed, as long as I approach the finger movement straight down, it will turn on and off, so now I am happy again.

6. My BF has the Samsung Epic 4G, and I gotta tell you his display is much nicer, much MUCH nicer, I actually cant beleive it, we are geeks so we will lay in bed and google the same stuff to see whose is quicker (mine is) but his display and layout and simplicity, I dunno, I would never admit it to him, but his display is strinkingly more brilliant in colors then mine. (Opinion though)

7. Did I mention the lack of a working video chat button? Seriously, this sucks.

8. There is a grey editing bar that sticks on my phone after the vkp comes up, this is highly annoying.

9. The word predictor on my old phone seemed much better, i thought at first that it was just my D2 had so many custom added words, but no, its not the custom added words, there is a lack of intuitiveness about what I am typing.

10. Apps, and Launching them are STICKY. I loaded LauncherPro but had a lot of problems, so I took it off. EVerything is STICKY and hesitant to launch, the widgets, the icons, once I get the app going, its speedy, but there is a strange hesitation/lag/stickyness to all the menu icons and widgets.

I have to get back to work but since I am struggling to remember what else is wrong - I guess Ive already covered the important stuff. I do love the phone though, but in retrospect since the VC isnt working, I wish I had waited.

idk what everyone is complainign about lag for. zero problems here.

Running ADW Launcher EX all tweaked out and loads of push data programs running in the background.

The first thing i did was use the built in task manager to throw some items into the "auto end" category so maybe that makes a difference.
