Bought the extended battery...BATTERY LIFE STILL NO GOOD

Your biggest obstacle at this point is finding a copy of update....

If you do find a copy and upload it then give it a couple of days before you start throwing in the towel and returning the phone bc mine took about 4 days for "something" to happen, so that my battery wouldn't get scorching hot and for it to last longer, and I haven't done anything to the phone once I upgraded to 2.2. I'm not a techy, but something was going on those 4 days that eventually worked itself out....

BTW I get about 15 hours on regular battery with moderate use (bluetooth always on, wifi always off, GPS off and on, and screen at 10% using a brightness widget), always checking email, looking at facebook/ hr, Pandora for about an hour/day, internet searches, and Bonsai 1hr/day.

Just an update...my phone died totally at 4:45 pm. I got 7.5 hours of life out of an overnight charge wit heavy use. I would find it hard to believe the battery is bad because the same thing happened when i had my old battery.

The same thing alszo happens to my friends X and Verizon techs told her to dl a taskiller sp i don't feel that a call to.them is even worth it.

This is really rediculous though...I feel the only way for this to be solved is to keep the damn phone connected to a charger at all times possible. I don't want to keep transporting my usb cable back from home and work, but it honestly looks like this is the only thing we can do

another thing, i am ALWAYS afraid to d/l new apps even just some to check the perfomrance such as systems panel or a file manager liek astro in case they are going to be running in the background and draining the battery....what do i do though if i do need these apps or would like them???

Personally, I haven't really had a problem with battery life. The brightness is set at about 10-15% (a guess since it's on the slider scale that came stock), I keep my phone set on nighttime (also not that necessary since I will usually end up charging overnight), and I've done some adjustments with what automatically starts at different times, but I get usually about 15 hours before I should charges with sending/receiving about 200 texts, , listening to 30-90 minutes of podcasts, browsing online, sending emails, and talking on the phone for about 2-3 hours (most of which is speaker phone). BTW - With the update, I uplugged today at 7am, listened to a 35 min podcast, browsed the web a bit, and sent/recieved about 50-70 texts, and I'm at 60% battery life.

To the OP, take some screen shots of your settings (if you can't, use someone's camera to take pics of your screen and post them), maybe there is something that you think you are doing, that you really aren't and someone on here can help you.

"btw, auto only means it stays 100% until it reaches 30% battery then it turns down to 60% or something, I'd manually adjust that"

I thought "auto brightness" had to do with both what you just said and adjusting to the brightness of where the phone is using the light sensor on the camera, because I've noticed that when I have my phone on auto brightness (for about 4 hours, bc just isn't worth it to me) it changed brightness based on that.

Real world battery numbers

My phone just died with about 13 hours and 35 minutes since it was last plugged in. Because it is dead, these numbers are from memory. The biggest percentage of that was talk time. At 1 hour and 6 minutes it was about 51% of the battery usage. The screen time was about 42% percent. Phone idle and cell standby were both under 7%. The "running" category in Spare Parts was about 29% with about 3 hours of wake time. The screen was on about 2 and 1/2 hours or so. I texted a litte, checked e-mail, read my Twitter feed, watch 5 or 10 minutes of youtube video, checked the weather, took 20 or 30 pictures and few other odds and ends. Would everyone agree that my usage was light to moderate?

Is this approximately what I should expect from my DX with Android 2.1? Is this about what others are seeing?

To those having battery issues, you don't happen to have tweetdeck installed do you? I was getting about 5 hours out of my battery while doing basically nothing. Then I upgraded to the vzw extended battery and only got about 8 hours.

After some process debugging I found tweetdeck was running in the bg and using the network often, even though I wasn't getting any notifications.

Now that I've uninstalled tweetdeck, my phone still has 70% left when I plug it in at night after having it unplugged for 16+ hours.

Without a doubt, tweetdeck was the culprit for me.

I don't have tweetdeck installed.

Here's an update. I did a factory reset last night...unplugged the phone after it was fully charged at 730 pm last night...it is now 10am and im still at 50% battery. Here are the variables though: i HAVE NOT downloaded all of the apps and widgets i had previously, plus i haven't filled every home screen up with apps or widgets either (i do have some buy not totally filled like i previously had my screens). The other big thing is that from 11 pm to 715 am i was asleep so the phone wasn't being used. That being said, im now on hour 15 since it was unplugged and im at 50%. I feel that it may have been something i downloaded or had running in the background. Today im going to reload all my apps and see what happens.

Another thought...i run the weather and toggle widgets flip clock on my main screen...for those who don't know its the clock that is stock on the HTC sense UI... i wonder id this causes a big drain on the battery as it must run every second of the day and isn't like the system clock that's a simple digital clock in the notification bar. Thoughts, comments, etc.?

Crap I am supposed to receive my extended battery in the mail today. So fully discharging the battery a few cycles has not improved battery life like it did for the original battery?

Lipskin, i have only let it drain fully and recharge once...that was yesterday and im goin to try it again today.

I would venture to say that the extended battery is going to work we'll for most people...for those of us who have a major problem like myself, the effects of the extended battery are minimal.

what helped me is keeping my charger in overnight as i didn't know you could do that with these batteries.....before I wasn't doing that and my phone was def losing about 10-20% overnight, but now when I leave the house its at 100% as opposed to 80-90%....I think this helped i'm going to see how it goes today

ANOTHER UPDATE, THIS TIME ITS TERRIBLE

As i had stated earlier, my battery was at 50% at 10am. It thereafter started to drain quickly and by 1130am it completely died and shut down. At around 10 am i download some of the apps i had previously: backgrounds, barcode scanner, compass, dictionary.com, imdb, droid light, google earth, google translate, rare black wallpapers, and espn scorecenter. I did not activate or open ANY of them, just dled and installed.

WHAT IS GOING ON HERE!??

Dial *#*#4636#*#* and tell us what's happening.

Droid X users running 2.1 need to UNCHECK phone settings > location & security > use wireless networks, until they get 2.2

If that doesn't seem to work for you:
-turn of GPS when done using
-turn off WIFI when done using
-reboot after charging
...all of this stuff shouldn't be necessary so hopefully the update will fix it.
