BREAKING: Sirius/XM App coming in May

I spoke with a Sirius rep earlier. An additional option to paying an the $2.99/mo for Premium service is to discontinue my current receiver and sign up with a new account that's just for internet and Android use. Basically the subscription would be the same I have now without the additional $2.99. I currently pay for an annual subscription and would get reimbursed for the days not used, then would start a new subscription. Since my current receiver only works sporadically, this is an appealing solution for me.

Careful, they charge $70 if you cancel before a year is up. I cancelled a 2yr old account and they charged it too! I complained and got my money back.

Also, they charge an activation fee even for current customers.

I believe the standard on-line service for Sirius/XM (including Stern) is Flash based. Once Flash is available on Android, I suspect - or like to think - we'll be able to listen using the standard browser player.

Maybe it would work with flash--I'm not sure. However, they block the opera browser on the PC. I doubt the droid browsers would be supported, at least without hacking.

And still, internet access costs $3/month. It had been free until recently.

There's a thread that discusses the ability to change the identity of the browser when the website queries it. May need to look into that when the time comes.

LOL good old Siruis/XM always looking for more and more and more money. They are so money hungry they got hardly any happy customers. I will not be getting this app.

Besides the fact they only made it for the Moto Droid and the Nexus One and i will be upgraded to an HTC Droid Incredible soon so the app probably wont even work on my phone.

Thanks for the heads-up!

Is this going to drain as much battery as streaming it through DroidLive or such programs?

I have to keep my phone plugged into the USB while listening to Stern via DroidLive (or XiiaLive or whatever)

This is just a guess but I would think it would use as much battery as any other streaming application does. Nobody knows for certain until it comes out.

As for this turning into an opinion thread on Stern: whatever.

What I want most is for someone to simply hack this app, or reverse-engineer it and learn how to build a new one that doesn't block 100/101 and the others. It has been done for iPhone, somebody should be able to pull it off for us (and I'd gladly donate to that person.)

If you search cherry rplayer for howard you get your wish--at least for howard. Maybe other channels on there too.

Hm, actually, not as much howard stuff there as last week.

I actually have my desktop pc record the show every morning and upload it to a web server so I can get it anytime, anywhere--pause, fast forward, rewind. I love it.
