Broken Droid

I'm not sure what exactly happened, but here is what happened.

Normal everyday activity. phone calls, little web, a game or two.
Unlock the phone and order pizza. while running a few errands on way to picking it up, i went back to phone to double check when i called them and all of sudden i can not unlock my phone. Out of the 9 dot unlock screen, the bottom three dots do not register me touching them. I bypass that with the forgot password option. Changed my lock code to include dots that work.

other issues... while in text mode. middle row or letters on keyboard do not work. example.. when hitting the H key, both the B and Y would appear on screen. whole middle row did that. top and bottom were fine.
When making a phone call, End call button did not work. Keypad option did not work. everything else did.

With the help of Verizon Tech, we tried a few things. several things within settings, battery pull and he finally asked me to restore to factory settings. Well all that did was completely make my phone usless because now the slide to open phone doesn't respond. Could see who is calling but can not pick up the phone either.

Called back and was forwarded to Motorolla Tech support. They tried to have me do all the same stuff but the phone was reacting as per above.
soo then they have me try a (with the phone off) hit the power button and X key on keyboard at the same time. That brings up a little Yield sign on the screen. from there you're supposed to hit the volume up and camera button at the same time and hold until a menu comes up. After 5 min of holding these buttons nothing happened.

Soo i do not know what exactly went wrong. or how to fix it.
Verizon was soo very nice and are fed-ex'ing me a brand new one as we speak... BUT what the hell happened?
Oh, i also had an option to mail my phone to motorolla and upont review they would send me a new one. but i like verizons solution better. :)

Has this happend to anybody?

That was what i was thinking.. but other then the three issues everything worked fine. until i restored and could not unlock. but while i was able to unlock most of the phone worked.
