Calls and texts while on wireless??

When I had my iPhone prior to the X I used either Vonage or Skype to make and receive calls on wi-fi without a cell signal. It came in very handy when on vacation in Mexico. I wish I could find a way to do that on the X.

How would using wi-fi at home extend battery life? I thought turning on wif-fi uses more battery?
I am glad to hear about the GPS though.

When connected to a wifi network, the phone will use less battery than when using 3G. Some folks think having wifi on and not connected uses more battery as the wifi app searches for networks. So, if connected - good; if not connected - bad. :)
Ok. So basically when at home or somewhere with a good wi-fi connection I should turn wi-fi on. Otherwise it should be off. Good to know.
