Camera too much autofocus

Hi everyone - I have a problem with my razr maxx phone - every time I try to take a video the autofocus is just... ridiculous. I can't move the camera at all without it doing a complete refocus and it makes videos look terrible. My girlfriend has an iPhone 3 and her videos are immaculate. My phone is supposed to be superior to that in both hardware and software but wow, these videos are unwatchable. I looked around for a setting to turn off the autofocus or whatever is making it do this, but couldn't find anything other than that "Video Stabilization" setting which doesn't make a difference if it's on or off. Videos are dark regardless of the lighting in the room as well.

I'm not expecting film quality out of this thing, but I'd like videos of my cats to at least be watchable. Has anyone else had this problem with their razr? Suggestions? Is it just something physically wrong with my phone? Thanks.
