Can the TB be used as a phone?

Why don't you people get the power widget that controls brightness display, data, satellite, telephone signal, wifi and bluetooth and stick in your home screen and turn whatever you don't need off at the touch of a button? Works like a charm on my D1.

I don't think anyone doesn't do that.

The thunderbolt would have about a 1 hour battery life if you left everything on.

Is this everybody's experience? even if you had a stable 4G or 3G signal and you weren't oc'd?

No not everyone experiences problems to that extreme I believe if ur a new TB owner u really have to spend time to really get to know ur phone, people don't realize how complicated these phones r I do understand some people's frustrations but u really have to do ur homework on this phone doesn't take much 4 me it was a walk in the park when my phone was stock I got about 12 hrs medium use now I'm rooted and get about a full day it's kinda building a relationship with ur phone, lol

I went to an amusement park last week. The TB was at 100% when I unplugged it from the car at 10am.

Didn't use it for anything all day.

At 4pm I went to call my wife to tell her where to meet and the TB was stone dead.

<6 hours of standby time is a joke.
Is there some mode to shut down everything but the phone?

I strongly recommend you buy an extended battery and the only syncs u should turn off completely r news/stocks but by buying the extended battery that should help somewhat depends on how u use it seems like there is something seriously wrong with ur phone though, also check "you tube" and search- how to save battery on thunderbolt. Good tips u can learn, o and here's the link 4 the extended battery. http://www.htcexpress.com/htc-batte...rydock-usb-charger-pd42100-0609728894818.html

I would email Verizon and tell them about the battery life and see what they will off I got a free 2700 battery and gas money :) .. and I hear a lot of ppl are getting 50% off

Cool, but with the 1700 mah u get to keep ur phone as is it's a slim battery and with the 2700 mah it's like carrying a brick if u can live with that then its cool problem solved.

Is the TB+2700 mAh battery thicker than the original droid?

O, and people please don't use "TASK KILLERS" can't stress this enough don't go by what ur told @ Verizon it does more harm to ur phone than good I haven't used one since the D1 got Froyo no matter what they say do not use task killers!!

Yes u need a different back 4 ur phone, Google it and you'll find out. But with the 1700 it stays the same but a little more juice.

I have gone 10 hrs with my battery dropping only 25% . I have an extended battery, drop the brightness to minimum, turned off background data. So its possible to get decent battery life out of these phones.

Yea but don't turn off all background data there's a widget called "mobile network " it's like airplane mode except that with this widget off u still get receive calls and txt and saves ur battery and with airplane mode u don't get anything not even a txt message. Mobile network is a widget under settings that u can set as a shortcut and turn it off while @ work like I do once off work turn it on and ur set.

I never said my battery was great but it's acceptable for my usage. But it is odd that there is such a difference among tbolts. I don't live in 4G area so that probably helps.

There is no way your thunderbolts battery last that long

I take mine off the charger and leave for work...plug in my car charger. Work til noon barley using my phone except for a few text and check face book a few times and by lunch its halfway drained .

That's with 4G turned off.

Would you like to make a wager? I had my phone fully charged before going to bed last night, a few minutes ago when I woke up I'm at 95%. Of course that is with no use whatsoever.

I feel I get better battery life with the MR2 radio and Gingerbread.

I'm not saying I don't believe you guys with batteries that drain quickly for no reason, but there must be some reason. I read a post from someone that two different people can have different experiences based on where they are. Because if one has a very strong tower signal the phone doesn't work as hard as one that has a weaker signal or a phone that keeps dropping from 4g to 3g. Each of us can have different battery life that changes based on where we are at any given moment.

But honestly I've replied in too many of these battery life posts, and it's getting tiring arguing with all those that are convinced that nobody has better battery life than them. And that all Thunderbolt batteries die in 4 hours.... lol If that is what you want to continue with it's fine by me... enjoy!

I've been using Juice Defender for several months and still have terrible battery life.
I've turned off the various syncs to see if that helps.

I just think there should be a widget that says " turn off absolutely everything except phone standby."

330 hours of standby. Give me a freaking break. I can't imagine ANY scenario where that could be true. They are liars.

Edit: I've watched the various debates about task killers ever since the D1 came out. I'm still not convinced they're bad. My TB was extremely sluggish last week so I installed Advanced Task Killer. It was showing that I had many, many apps running. I killed them and the sluggishness was gone.

For now I've uninstalled it again just to try to troubleshoot the battery issue.

That blows me away. I plug mine in while watching TV at night, so when I go to bed it's 100%. If I set it on my nightstand and forget to plug it in, it's totally dead by morning.

Maybe someone can/has tried this?

Factory data reset (install no additional apps).
Sync off.
Airline mode on.
Lowest screen intensity.
Fully charge, then leave phone alone (letting it sleep) until it runs out of battery.

How many hours is that?

That would be more realistic than the manufacturer's claim of standby hours.

If you are being serious we could probably help you. That is terrible, and it has happened to me at least once with every phone I've owned, so I believe you.

Does that happen every night? I never plug my phone in overnight. I always fully charge it then unplug before going to bed. My phone never uses more than 10% by morning. I will then plug it in while drinking my coffee and it's fully charged again by the time I'm cleaned up.

Send my a private message and maybe we can work together to figure out what's going on.

P.S. Do you live in an area that has poor tower signal? 4G? or bouncing back and forth between 3 and 4g?

330 hours of standby sounds silly... I don't believe it either and I get pretty good battery life.

But after this post I am convinced you are creating many issues for yourself. When the D1 first came out on Android 2.0 task killers were of some use. But this is so far in the past I can't believe we still have to discuss this. But good luck I guess.
