Cannot get into recovery mode

I am trying to root my droid x with OTA GB. I have the sbf zip file already on my SD card but when I try to go into recovery by holding the home button while powering on, once the ! show, I let go of the home button and hit the search button and nothing happens. I have seen other posts where people had usb debugging on, I made sure I had that turned off and still not wanting to go anywhere.

Follow these instructions, except at the end, if you don't want Liberty GB, don't install the LGB 0.x zip file.

rsd lite doesn't even recognize my phone even after I install the new drivers
