Car Dock

I you sure about that because when I PUT it in the holster the car dock app starts every time.

oh you already have it and are testing it, eh? haha well, i guess you're out of luck then, sorry... i just read on the hack description (where they jerryrigged some tissue box to be the dock) that the magnets have to be very specifically placed...

Wow. Thanks for the correction. I was running on little sleep. My 2 year old daughter was throwing up most of the night. She is all better now.:)

Has anyone had problems with the "sticky" disc that adheres to the dash? I cleaned my dash with the alcohol pad and applied pressure on it for a good 24 hours (left a box of Black Box wine sitting on it). The very first day of using it, the pad peeled off (cleanly) and I had to return it to Verizon just to get another sticky disc. Is there anything else I should know about adhering the pad to the dash?

its not just any magnet that turns it on, it has to be two separate magnets a specific distance from each other, so you should be ok

Actually you just need a single magnet. I can reliably put my Droid into either car dock or multimedia dock mode using a single disc shaped refrigerator magnet about 5/8 inch diameter. If I just place it on the proper spots on the back of the Droid I can choose multimedia or car dock mode. So two magnets is definitely not necessary.

Ditto, I have done the same with just one magnet.

I put the disc on the dash and it stuck well. It was actually hard to get off. But for some reason the suction cup would not stick to the disk. I have now mounted mine to the left of my stearing wheel. I can get to it easily there and it is out of all sight lines. The only draw back is I have not found a way to plug it in. I need a longer flat wire charger to run over there. Anybody know where to get one?

Seeing as I can't get my hands on a car dock, what makes the Droid specific dock any better/different than a universal dock that can be had at most electronic stores (for less $$)? I see a magnet is in the mix but I can always add one, as mentioned above.

And really the magnet isnt that useful. You have a "car mode" button on your screen anyway.. all you have to do is press it.

What I like is that it's an exact fit for the device - do adjusting clamps and such, just snap it right in.

I 2nd that, Thats exactly what I like best about mine.
It fits perfect, all your buttons and micro-USB port are exposed.
and it snaps in tight but still pops out easy when I need it.
It also seems like better quality that most of the universal car mounts I seen and used.

plus with universal car mounts, most you dont have to worry about removing the back side of a shell for the Droid. just put it in and go. with me though i have to remove the back half of my shell, which is still easy, but i have to keep track of that piece so i dont lose it or smash it.

Screen won't stay on while in car dock

I just got my car dock today so I thought I would try it out. When I put my Droid in the dock, it knows that it is in a car dock and it rotates the screen etc. Also, my car has a USB port, so instead of purchasing a car charger, I have just been plugging the USB cable in from my car's port and it appears to be charging just fine.

I had expected that while charging and in car mode that the phone's display would stay on so I can use it for navigation ect. Does anyone else have this issue or am I missing some required setting?

Thanks...
:icon_eek:

P.S. I have removed the battery, done a *228, etc...
