Contacted attorney about ICS crippling webtop

SallyC said:
Well I was a bit surprised since I was seriously (and I thought respectfully) asking the OP for info since I don't own a docking station but people seem to using them with ICS. And my comment about the lawsuits not seeming similar was also sincere and not meant to be unkind, although I'm not sure he realized that.

Having said that, the OP telling me he can't help me is okay - all things considered, I really find that easy to believe. But bruben7886's quick abandonment - leaving me for zombie lunch meat - man, that really hurt! <img src="http://www.droidforums.net/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=53161"/> Good thing I'm not a mod or I'd ban his little butt! :p

LMBO!
The "ban the person above" is another thread......zombie snack.....

I think 3.0 is a huge step in the right direction. The best thing about the update is that you dont need all the gadgets to get it to work. A micro hdmi cable and a tv and BAM you have webtop. The phone becomes the mouse, you can bring up the keybaord. Its a little difficult to navigate it that way but since i have the bionic lapdock i only spent a few min testing it that way. The best part is a micro hdmi cable can be purchased on amazon for under $10. If anything webtop is now more accesable to the masses.

From reading your posts you stated the lapdock does work but you don't like the tablet feel of the new webtop (maybe you just got to get used to it), you dont have firefox (try another browser), and Hulu doesn't always work (could be a Hulu problem) and you mentioned Hulu cuts HDMI out (which is a Hulu app problem). You also mentioned the bluetooth accessories don't work most the time so this is most likely a Moto problem.

So most of the problems have to deal with the apps you use most likely not being optimized for ICS, so I don't see how that's Moto's fault. Regarding the bluetooth functionality did you try to rectify it via technical support? Is it still under warranty so you can get it fixed? I didn't see you mention anything about contacting customer support or maybe reapplying the update or clearing the cache to fix your issues.

I know you feel wronged but the question is did you try to resolve the problems before filing a lawsuit? Did you contact Moto and Verizon to solve your problems? Did you make a warranty claim, maybe your lapdock is malfunctioning on its own. And these firms that file classactions (and attorneys in general) are more interested in making money. You see the types of compensation class members get in these lawsuits, hardly anything while the attorneys get a lion's share of the settlement.

I'm just saying I'd like to see you try to resolve it through normal channels before filing a lawsuit because it seems premature to file a lawsuit if you have not done so.

At this point your attorney will advise you not to do that. Do you know why? Because if it gets resolved they get nothing for the time and effort they've spent with you working up the case. So who has your best interest in mind in getting this resolved?

Class action lawsuits are almost always a great benefit for the attorney trying the case, often provide very little reparations to the "participants" of the lawsuit - often a token coupon or small cash payment of a nominal amount, and although this may not be a popular comment...contribute to higher costs for future devices for everyone.

I have been party in 5 class actions, I was notified by mail, I had none of the problems mentioned, so I said yes just to see what would happen, my total reward for all 5 13.72 dollars and a tune up free coupon. After reading the final court papers only the first 4 or 5 plaintiff's got sizable compensition, the lawfirm made out like a bandit though. Enjoy your coupon.

Yeah, I've received probably at least 5 myself. Just about every insurance, cell or cable carrier I've had for the past 10yr or so has had 1 that I was eligible for. I didn't even bother mailing in my forms, just doesn't worth the trouble for a $2 check.

That just reminded me about 1 of the few times that I played the lottery I actually 4 or 5 numbers(what it is that normally paid around $150k). Usually only a handful people would hit that many numbers but the 1 time I did around 10k others did as well. IIRC it was one of those times that the jackpot was really huge so a lot of people like myself that normally don't play did. Anyway I only ended up winning $10 or $15(can't remember the exact number as it was awhile back) after dividing up between the abnormally large group.

Wow, I guarantee the air around me would have turned black that day...

I can't run apps on the lap dock. It only works as a phone or internet browser, or am i missing something? If so please advise.

Although I haven't tried ever app but I've run a lot of mine & they worked in both webtop & phone modes. They seemed to run the same in both modes but just look better in webtop mode since it's set for the higher resolution instead of just stretched.

What exactly is happening when you try to run your apps?

I understand the OP's frustration with the ICS webtop.

I purchased the Razr Maxx for the webtop/laptop functionality. I checked that it was compatible with a Droid Bionic lapdock prior to purchase; all I needed was adapter cables. I did look at the 100 dock, but did not care for the cheap feeling plastic case and the small screen. The Bionic lapdock is crisp, clean, thin brushed metal, with a larger screen. I bought a brand new Bionic Lapdock at the Verizon Store for my Maxx (just before the Bionic lapdock went on sale! LOL!)

What some of you may not understand is that we paid a lot of money for the hardware "toys". In my case, I purchased a dock, travel adapter, and lapdock less than two months ago! Now those hardware "toys" do not function in the same capacity that they did before the upgrade to ICS.

For instance, the lapdock is STILL being advertised (I just checked to be sure) on the official Motorola site as having a: "Full Firefox Browser: Browse like you mean it". With ICS there is no ability to use full firefox, you can't have multiple windows open. There are other features that are not the same either. File Manager comes to mind. Yes, you can still plug a USB drive in, but you better download a file manager that can handle it. Some file managers do not.

ICS forces the screen size into a letterbox layout. Most of my nice Bionic screen is now wasted space (the image on the 11.6 screen doesn't seem all that much bigger than my Maxx's screem), as well as my computer monitor screen - if you don't have a letterbox aspect screen you are going to have a lot of wasted space.

Also, I do a lot of typing using Docs to Go. I made sure this functionality was available before I purchased my lapdock and Maxx. It worked beautifully. With ICS the resolution is horrible (letters are pixelated and stretched out of proportion and there are no adjustments you can make) and I'd rather write something out longhand than use the lapdock that I so recently purchased.

The only problem I had with the lapdock on GB was an evbridge loop problem that Motorola recognized and put out a work around for. Motorola also promised that in the new ICS webtop this problem would be fixed. (They never said they'd fix the problem by throwing the software out)

I spent several hours on the phone with Motorola after I upgraded to ICS. There is no fix coming for webtop. I will repeat for anyone who thinks this will be resolved in the next bug fix - or the the OP was being to swift to complain. There will be no fix coming for webtop. Motorola told me they have scrapped the old webtop 2.0 and may do some tweaking with webtop 3.0, but it will never go back to what it was.

Therefore, I completely understand the OP's statement that some of the features are now crippled. Webtop 3.0 is not the advertised "improvement"; it is a different thing entirely - merely a mirror of your phone in tablet version.

Some, maybe even many, will like the new better than the old. But there are also several of us who bought the hardware for specific reasons and feel scammed by this new software. We wasted several hundreds of dollars on hardware that no longer functions as it was - and still is - advertised.

Just think how you'd feel if your home pc was running just fine on good old reliable XP, and without your say so, Microsoft forced VISTA down your throat and made your peripherals suddenly not work like were meant to?

Overly dramatic? No, not at all. Simply stating the facts.

I should have bought a bluetooth keyboard instead of wasting several hundred dollars on what I thought was a mini-laptop replacement.

(and yes, I am still running XP on one of my pc's at home. Does this fact make me a freak who can't adjust to the new software? Hardly! LOL! That old XP machine is still running like a charm as is my Win7 machine. I steered well clear of VISTA)

Newer isn't necessarily better.

Thanks, CrystaG, for articulating what the issues are. Not being a lapdock user, I had no idea what was changed and I can understand the problem better now.

My home network runs Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Win 7 64bit. Vista isn't bad - but I like Win7 the best. I keep thinking back to the old days, sitting at a DOS prompt or playing with BASIC. Compared to that, anyone of those machines is simply amazing!:happy3:

Remember the apple antennae law suit that settled earlier this year?? A 10 $ case.... that's what people got...

DROID RAZR MAXXIMIZED!!!! PREPARE TO BE VANQUISHED!!!

As it turns out I was somehow included in a class action lawsuit against eBay. I had no idea there was a lawsuit let alone that I was part of it. Apparently eBay overcharged some sort of fee. One day I got a check in the mail for $0.18! WOW! I'm rich!!!

I'd guess the lawyers who handled the lawsuit got plenty of money. I still have my big 18 cent check stuck on the refrigerator. I just can't decide what to do with the unexpected wealth.

Hee hee, my brother in law worked at Radio Shack back in the day. I bought one of the first home computers - the Tandy TRS80 with a cassette player for storage. Taught myself Basic on that beauty. Loved it!

Yeah ... compare the TRS80 to my Razr Maxx!

Truth is, they're hoping most won't cash it anyway...then after the statute of limitations runs out they reclaim the money.

This is EXACTLY WHY I hate class action lawsuits. They benefit only a VERY FEW, usually only the lawyers and the initiating party or parties in the lawsuit. I think they should be revised to say that ALL proceeds are to be divided equally among ALL participants with NO special reparations for the initiating parties. Then there would be FAR LESS of these things going around, gumming up the legal system for the benefit of the few, and increasing costs for the many.

I can imagine the initiating party or parties thinking twice about such a method of leverage if they were only getting $0.18 for their time and trouble.

Just saying...
