Turn your hardware keyboard backlight on and do this:
adb shell cat /sys/class/leds/keyboard-backlight/brightness

and tell me the value.

I'm a developer (backlight off @ android market) and I've gotten a few requests to lock backlight on when the keyboard is open.

That'd be a lot easier if I knew that the backlight value on the different models is the same
