Hey guys. I cracked my screen today. Just like what I've read on here, 2 ft fall onto wood floors, landed perfectly glass side down, and cracked. I don't have insurance because I was screwed over with insurance in the past with my Droid 1. Anyway, I've watched the videos on youtube and I'm fairly confident that I can do it myself. I am worried about purchasing a cheap knock off, or the wrong one without knowing it.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Maybe a link with the exact part I need? I know it needs the glass and digitizer, or whatever it's called. I just read on here that someone ordered one that had the wrong connections. I want to avoid this.

BTW, I got my X new in January, so less than a year ago.

The local verizon store is confident that they can do it for something like $100. But for $30, I'd rather do it myself.

Thanks for any help,
Steve

Look to Amazon. There are also several repair sites that specialize in selling replacement parts. You could Google them and give them a try! :) be careful if you do look on Amazon or Ebay because they might just be knockoffs!
The glass is the digitizer btw! ;)

Swyped and sent through the interwebz to you!

Thank you, but that's my question. I am hoping someone has recently replaced their screen and can tell me who to buy it from.

You guys here know a lot more than I do. I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to spot the knock off.

Thanks,

Steve

We took our cracked X into a local repair shop and they did it for us. I just wanted to say that on the X you need more than just the screen. You need another part--maybe the touch sensing hardware or cable. I could be wrong, but I believe that this is the case.

Thanks guys, but I am looking for someone who has just purchased the screen/digitizer and can point me in the right direction. Everything that I've searched says, "be careful of fakes", but doesn't say, purchase from these guys, they are genuine.

C'mon guys, I know this comes up a lot.

Thanks,
Steve

I searched for it on eBay and found one for $26 + free shipping. The seller had a rating of almost 100,000. Why not go with something like that?

Is the digitizer the extra part I was told about?

Have you tried contacting Motorola? They should point you in the right direction

I did. $115 and it could be up to 2 weeks including shipping. That's just too long.

I'm going to see what I can come up with. I'll run it by you guys before I actually order. I'm still surprised that nobody has given me a link with an ebay store or something.

Thanks,
Steve

Gadgetfix based in California, its an eBay store. Just go to ebay and look them up. Ur looking for a digitizer for Droid x. That's all u need, no other cable or anything. Make sure to by a torx 5 screw driver.

Thank you, that's what I was looking for. I actually found these guys. Seems to be the same genuine part, but it comes with the tools.

LCD Touch Screen Digitizer For Motorola Droid X MB810 | eBay

Thanks again for your help,
Steve

Looks great. Glad I could be if assitance.

Just a word of caution. A small rubber piece will probably fall out of the phone when u open it. I have yet to figure out where this small rubber piece goes, but it does not seem to effect the functionality of the phone. It looks like it should be under the power button, but does not fit there. So if it falls out u don't have to freak out. :)

Hmmm

Similar problem, but a blemish appeared on my screen after a drop. Have the insurance but they want $100 for replacement deductible. Is the blemish caused by a crack. None visible, but blemish grows when pressure placed on screen below area. Almost looks like water between the protector and the screen.

Hmm, that sounds more like the LCD needs replaced. You can get that part from my the place in my previous post too.

Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a little update. I finally got time to change out the screen on my X. It went very well, and the youtube videos were spot on. The only thing I was I didn't have a T3 screwdriver. My glass came with tools, but they sent me a T6 and a T5. So, I ran out to the hardware store and picked one up.

It really didn't take very long, I took my time and was very patient with the connections to make sure they were correct, and not damaged. My phone is as good as new! And it only cost me $25! Well, plus $5 for a T3 screwdriver.

Sure beats $115 for Motorola to do it.

Thanks guys for the help,
Steve
