Custom Kernel

Bootloop ever since I tried tethering, damn it! It was working well before that. My way to recovery was to unlock after the boot splash and press the power button and put it in airplane mode. Then enter rom manager and flash the newest p3 kernel. Otherwise It would function fine until I turned off airplane mode and bootloop. going to keep watching this thread for updates, I won't give up on Jam.

I ran across juniorjwh same issue -- Jamez kernel Compcache enabled ran welll with no issues for a lil while until I decided to test wifi, as soon as I pressed on wifi icon phone chrashed. I flashed p3 1.25ghz enabled Compcache using same commands provided by Jamez in this thread. Phones running 14 hrs with no issues and wifi running.

Do you know the command for this particular hernel to make my Compcache auto start so I dont manualy have to initialize it everytime I reboot??? or do I have to go into sys/etc/init'd and mess wiith it there. I noticed lastnite theres 2 folders 90compcache and 90_compcache both folders are the same, name is different do I need to get rid of one?

Works fine on sapphire. No bootloops. Will see how it performs after some use. Seems snappy though.

Also jam what do you have the screen of set as for the smartasss governor?

Unless I misunderstand, isn't the smartass governor supposed to clock the min down to, say, 1xxmhz and 3xxmhz for when the screen is off (these are numbers for htc phones of which I do not remember the exact numbers) and clock the min up to 3xxmhz and whatever max you have when the screen is on?

It does not seem to show this change. Maybe I just misunderstood what I read on xda?

I still have to tweak some settings for the smartass governor.

Ill try rebuilding the wifi driver and change some other things as well, been back at school this week so haven't had much time to play.

I'm starting on an app to manage compcache...stay tuned.

Thank you Jamezelle. So far, not only do I love 0.12.31, but your kernel with compcache enabled and the sdcard swap partition makes my phone fly! No lag at all. And that is with a class 2 sdcard. Just ordered the class 10 sdcard!

As far as enabling swap at boot, I tried to research how I could do it on my own. Tried using the Autostart app that is available in the market, but it does not seem to work with froyo.

As such, I have no idea how to add code or recompile the boot image so I will simply go to terminal emulator after a reboot and type in swapon /dev/block/ramzswap0.

Thanks again for the kernel. It works great on my D1. No boot loop, no lag. WIFI works great. I can't find one problem!

2 questions... does wireless tether turn on AND off for you? If so... did you do the throttle hack?

According to the 0.12.31 change log, the throttle hack is included standard in the rom, so yes, it is on. Wireless tether works great for me. I have tethered my laptop and my wife's ipod touch with no problems.

UPDATE

Wireless tether is long longer working. Not sure why, but I am going to go back and try the original Jamezelle kernel with interactive settings and see if that is the problem.

Let me say that on each release of miui, I wipe data and cache. I backup my apps with tibu and I simply use miui backup for my screens backup. When reinstalling apps I never reinstall any system data. Only app data.

Another Update

I reverted to the original Jamezelle kernel with Compcache and now Wirless Tether works great. It seems the new smartass kernel has a Wireless tether issue.

Runs like a beaut, however the smartass governor crashes my phone. Luckily interactive is still around ;)

Waiting to see if I can get the compcache/swap working....

UPDATE: So when it runs, it's ridiculously fast and smooth with swap on. However, if it runs into a problem, it bootloops my phone for a good while before booting properly again, which is annoying. I was wondering, Temple, where did you find the version without the smartass governor? Share? :D

Also, at boot I run "swapon /dev/block/ramzswap0". Does this turn on my swap partition (which I have, and I've confirmed works on other kernels using the terrible yet semi-effective program Swapper 2) or compcache? Or both? Both would be sweet. If not both, someone should let me know how to do both.

Thanks guys

Bigger update time:

So I enjoyed the performance so much that I kept the kernel around despite the sporadic reboots. However, I discovered an eensy-weensy problem: audio input did not work. I could place calls and hear the recipient, however they could not hear me, be it over microphone, speakerphone or even a wired headset.

Now, I'm attempting to install P3Droid's kernel, and it's bootlooping too. Gahh. I don't want to compromise that taste of performance I had!

Here is the original kernel from Jamezelle.

Yes, after each boot I go to Terminal and type in
su
swapon /dev/block/ramzswap0

This turns the swap on.
