Custom route for GPS

On google maps I created a custom route I wanted to take home from work and saved it as one of my places. When I try to make the GPS take that route it just gives me the default route home. Anyone know how to use the custom route?

I'm wondering too, I tried a few different things to get a custom route to work the other day and I couldn't......
