i have a D2 (not global) with stock gingerbread and root/bootstrap, nothing else custom. i remember in cm7 that i had to sbf back to froyo to upgrade to gingerbread based cm7. can i flash this ROM directly or do i have to perform any workaround steps?

If you use the builds in this thread, you should be able to just flash it.
Once you flash this ROM, make sure to not use bootstrap anymore. Once it's flashed you can long press the power button, select reboot, and select recovery to get into recovery.
Thanks Havens and The Robot. I was able to flash it with minimal issues. The first time I was boot-looping and the 2nd time went smooth (even though I followed the exact same steps). The ROM still seems a little laggy (I'm spoiled to my GNex), but definitely better than GB with MotoBlur.
The problem I'm having now is getting the WIFI connection to stick. Upon first boot up and signin, Market restore did its thing - got about 1/2 way done and decided to take a dump and reboot all on its own. Ever since, the WIFI connection will obtain an IP while I'm on the settings screen, but exiting it drops within a few seconds.
any thoughts? maybe re-download and flash again. i haven't checked the mdsum, stupid me.

I've been using it too, but battery life on that is pretty terrible too. It regularly drops on my from 78ish percent all the way down to 48. These ROMs are all great I just wish something could be done about the battery life.
The random drop thing seems to be an issue with the Moto kernel. Every ROM I've used based on the OTA kernel has had that issue. But the CM9 ROMs by 13th definitely do have pretty bad battery life right now. It's not just due to those drops though, there's something else going on.

Yeah for sure, when I was using it dropped like a rock. I was charging the phone 2 to 3 times a day and thats just with some texting. Thing is FirstEncounters ROM, one of the ROMS they made the build from, had amazing battery life. Best I even had on the phone actually. So I don't exactly know what happened between the 2, but there has to be a way to find out what it was on his that was making it so good and fixing it in the current ROM.

This ROM is built from the CM source, not from anything else. They MAY have used some of FirstEncounter's work to get some of the device-specific stuff working (The keyboard, 3G, wifi, etc.) but for the most part it's straight CM9.
