Start it up and hit start. Then hit your hard key back arrow, navigate to screen you want captured and shake. Before you shake it should show the camera in your notification bar.

I hit my DroCap icon, it opens up and has "start" on top, "shake trig" in the middle and "cancel" on bottom. I hit start and it starts counting. Then I hit back arrow and wait for the little camera to pop up then I shake it.

It doesn't matter to me, I only look at it when I'm gonna open it...it just sits in the app drawer...

Open it and hit your menu/pref. Then select capture mode and hit shake trigger

EDIT: I too am getting a black bar at the top with drocap, it also has a camera 3G and the time..odd...
