Delete and application icon

Under applications, there are many icons of programs I will never need. How do I delete these icons? I've tried under task manager, settings...etc.
For example, "Blockbuster" I will never use, how do I get rid of this on my system?

Someone mentioned to me to click and drag to the trash can, then hold over trash can for a few seconds and it would delete from the system but this does not work.

gotta root your phone, then use Android Mate (download from the market), then you can delete those apps...

but be carefully about deleting stuff, you might end up bricking your phone
