Did my Droid just update? What happened?

Something goofy happened this afternoon. I grabbed my phone to make a call and it rebooted. Once it came back online, there were some changes to the way it functions. for example:

The Home button no longer does anything at all.
If I long press the power button, I don't have options anymore (airplane mode or mute), I can only power down.
The screen lock no longer works
It now has an "expanding fade" in and out of every program.
The search button doesn't work any more
My signal dropped off significantly

On the up side, it seems to be working faster. I'd prefer a laggy phone to one with non-functional buttons

that sounds like something happened that shouldn't have. it didn't update. do you have an old version you can try to see if it will work?

Very odd, have you tried a factory reset?

Stock.

I'll backup and try a factory reset. Bummer.

I'd try rebooting it (battery pull) again; perhaps for some reason it booted into some sort of 'safe mode'?
