Do we need a 200 GB SD Card?

Not just wireless hard drives, but there are several versions of wireless storage adaptors that also double as a backup battery charger. I own two and they both work pretty good. They not only support SD cards but also external USB drives and can even act as acres point bridges to give multiple devices access to both the storage and the internet.
What are some you recommend in case we have a few heavy travelers among us?

I have a ZeroLemon ZeroShock Case for my old Note 2. Has lots of room when not using the Zero Lemon Extended Battery. I wanted to do a Mod with a
SD to MicroSD FPC Extender (Amazon.com KZ-B19-065 SD to Micro SD FPC Extender Computers Accessories)(~$20-$25) and get a
PNY 256GB SDXC (PNY Elite Performance 256GB SDXC Flash Memory Card - 90 MB s Read Speed CL 10 For High-end DSLR Cameras HD Video - P-SDX256U1H-GE at TigerDirect.com) ($90 + Free S/H on tigerdirect.com)
card for it.
I am thinking about this same Mod for my Surface Pro 3. Cheap way to add 256GB of Space.

Very interesting. Post a picture of your rig if you end up doing it?

I'd love to see a solution that could add that full-size 256GB card to a phone's capacity without adding to the length or width. In other words, most of it would be housed on the back of the phone adding to the depth. Some sort of flat HDMI plug that then adds only a few mm width.

No thanks. It's ridiculously expensive. Beside, I don't think I need it. But hey, it's cool if only the price is right

I hear you and agree that reasonably priced, all other things being equal I'll always opt for more storage. Unfortunately for me it doesn't matter. I'll still need the OTG adapter since my phone doesn't have an SD card slot.
Yeah, if Samsung sticks with this new "no external sd card" bull**** going forward, I'll be right there with you. I actually have plenty of external HDDs, flash drives and a couple OTG cables that I use for my tablet & laptop, so it isn't like it would be too difficult a transition.

My camera has built in Wi-Fi capability. The card in it has an app for my phone that I can either transfer photos to it over Wi-Fi or transfer to the phone then up to the cloud over hotspot.
My answer would be no I don't need one because there are too many ways for me to wirelessly move photos and videos from it to somewhere else, freeing up space. I've got a 64gb card that I've never filled to near capacity because I move photos then delete from the card.

I'm kind of the same way. SD Cards are just of no use to me but there are some people who are adamant about having them. The only use case I could ever use it for is on-device music and video for those with a limited data plan. Most people don't want to stream it cause it heavily hits their data plan. Although, even though I have AT&T, I hardly hit my cap when streaming for my commute to work.. Although, I get the argument for a 'long plane ride' and wanting to have a few movies on deck. Although, most planes are installing Wifi on planes so...ugh. If you seriously need it, why not? Go hog wild.

Oh I'm all for having one on the phone, it just seems the topic was stating cameras are the only real need for huge cards anymore. Even so an otg and portable flash drive can hold movies if that's the only pro argument left. I just like "it's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it" abilities with an external memory card. My G2 never got near its 32gb capacity because it's too easy and inexpensive to be able to move stuff around and if Android manufacturers are going to follow Apple and charge $100 for extra memory after eliminating card capability I'll just use my otg cable and flash drives in the future like I did the G2 and Nexus 7 tablet I used to have.

Not in disagreement with either of you in respect to the ability to move data elsewhere, but where it becomes very mission critical is when you don't take the time to set up those backup methods, and your data is on the internal, non-removeable SD card, and the phone crashes. There have been so many of those cases, it seems almost daily even as of late, and in the past it was multiple daily at times, but even if it's only one who loses all their prized pictures and/or videos to a phone crash and can't simply take out the SD card and dump to the desktop of their PC, then it's one too many.

Sure, you can say blame it on the user... User failed to set up the cloud or plug in a USB cable to the PC and dump, user suffered the consequences. But is it really fair to the user that due to a non-user failure, one they couldn't predict or prevent, that their data is lost forever? I mean, we could say that if we didn't put safety belts and airbags in cars, and someone slams into a pole and dies, that it's all their fault. But couldn't we have possibly prevented that death by putting additional safety measures in place? I see the removeable SD card not so much as a way to "expand" memory, but intead as a safety net. It is a feature that costs nary a couple dimes per unit to include, has negligible impact to the price, and yet gives a valuable extra layer of protection...

It's just silly to have to pull a hodge-podge of storage solutions together when the perfect free solution COULD be right in my pocket. Everything I need in one place, always on me, and without having to rely on an internet connection.

It's simply about access and convenience. I NEED this flash storage and this phone.....for the love of god, put them together!!! That's all I'm asking.

Not to even mention: Play Music simply sucks.

Excellent point. It's only good as an archive tool.

Almost all my music is 320kbps....I can get about 4500 songs on my Droid Turbo and that leaves little storage for anything else. It would be nice to have ANOTHER 64gigs, at a minimum, for photos, video, etc..

I just prefer to have mine locally. I did try Google Music. Uploaded 15gb of music. After using just about every Music app out there, its just a joke compared to even the bad ones. Compared to a good one, like PowerAmp, its downright awful.
Since my collection hasn't grown as quickly as anticipated, I decided I would go card-less and get the 64gb Turbo.
The screen warranty was why.
I use Media Monkey to synch my phone library to my laptop and vice versa, so that's my redundancy. It's a good setup. MM + PA.
As for Spotify and those services, I'm old school and will always be.
I use Pandora and Slacker to find need music. And when I find something I like, call me crazy, I like to buy it.
I prefer to own the music I really like, not have it bookmarked on some services personal playlist.
Music is important to me.
My pics get synched to DropBox through DropSynch.

My phone in 2 years will be most likely whatever LG is selling with a card slot.

It still blows my mind that any company still sells 16gb phones with no slots. Looking at you, Apple. And you Moto. The first Android RAZR should have started at 32. Hell, these things have been around 8 years, or so? 64 GB should be entry level.

A lot of people don't have much music, or are fine with the various cloud and streaming services. OEM's might only save like $10 on the sd slot, but you're talking like 5% profit margin (plus the ridiculous mark-ups on devices with more internal storage). That's the racket.

Curious to know how many people get like 16gb on their first phone, and realize it was a mistake down the road. Just put in a slot and gouge us there - at least give us the option.

Not to mention, 16gb is barely enough for the OS and app data. It's further stretched by the fact some apps will only store data on the internal card (I'm looking at you, developers). I have a few apps on my phone that download articles for offline reading, and those apps aren't always good about deleting/overwriting older articles. I'm having to go in every couple of days to delete my GReader cache because I have about 3.5GB free and it fills up after several days (if I had root, I could probably automate that with Cachemate).

So limited storage and lack of root means I'm wasting time managing storage space...and I shouldn't need to do that when I paid $600 for my phone. I was salivating over that 128gig micro sd, but alas no card slot in the Turbo.

I rather enjoy Play Music. Anything that I want to listen to is there, it has Pandora type radio stations, and you can download anything you want. It's no different than downloading music to an SDCard.

The two things that will make me miss SDCards the most are Nandroids and photo storage. I'm sure I could find an absolutely viable option with syncing via wifi or something which would replace my Sunday morning backups with my computer.

It's already happening with my iPhone and would be very easy to setup in my Note.
