Do You Go Naked or Case the Maxx HD?

A lot of people prefer naked... I like the feel of naked devices too... but its a good thing to have a 600$+ device in a case. It keeps resale value higher if the device doesn't get all nicked and scratched, and it keeps you from having to go buy another phone if you drop yours...

I also put full body kits on my devices, military shields.. another layer of protection from scratches.. :)

<rant>I've been using PDA's for about 15 years. Cases are useless. They get in the way, make the phone larger, or uglier. Especially when you have a phone as well made as the Razr/Maxx HD there is no need for a case. You're going to get some scratches here and there but that's part of the game. What's the difference between getting the scratch on your phone or on the case if you have the case on the thing all the time anyway?!?!? The phone will last the life of your contract. Let it look as good as it was designed to! Don't waste money on a case!!!! </rant>
I'm with you 100%. Most cases make the phone excessively large where you can no longer fit it in the front pocket, they look ugly, and they get in the way.

Why the rant? If you don't like cases, no problem, I need a case so it should be my decision and if it pees you off, so be it.

For me, traveling in the desert at all times (except on leave when I'm in the high forests), I need a heavy duty case. If it isn't from dropping it, it could be due to tumbling down stone ledges, etc.

So there is no need to get high blood pressure over someone's decision to case a phone or not.

Great point. I'm sorry for the rant. There are many good reasons to have a case as you (desert traveling) and others (resale value for instance) have mentioned.

I do want to encourage others to consider not using a case because I think many get one just because they think they need one for some reason. I think many may enjoy their smartphone more without the case and really have no need for it. I think many devices, like the Razr HD and the Galaxy S3, look better without them and, even if it's not by much, they're smaller without them.

Thank you for calling me on my pride and bad attitude. There was no reason for that.

Very nice apology hotice. Very nice to see someone not getting defensive but instead being mature and respectful!

I always use the gel cases with a screen protector. They look nice (I think), don't add to much more bulk, are easy to put on and take off...and they do exceptionally well protecting my phones. Yesterday, I almost cried when I heard my phone crash to the ceramic floor from about 4 feet. Thought for sure it would be a drop that wouldn't fare well. Nope, phone odds still in perfect condition. I think the gel provides a little bounce, give, not so rigid so seems to protect better than you would expect. Not sure how well it would do in a sandy environment though. It does fit tight but I can see how sand could get under the edges.

Amazon.... theres a company called itech... they're really low priced and usually if you provide feedback for them on amazon, they send you out a second screen protector for the same device in about a month... I love em... they're military shields...

And cases do help keep resale value... I've sold two razr maxx's for 400$ apiece.... cash deals...both phones were bought new in February...

Just a heads up. i had a Droid X for over 2 years with no case and even after dropping it all the time i didn't have any problems with it. on the other hand 3 days after buying the Maxx HD i leaned over the hood of my car with the phone in my pocket facing my leg and i guess it flexed too much. The screen cracked on the inside, not the outer gorilla glass screen. i posted about this on another forum and got to pm's about others cracking there screens somehow. I always loved Motorola's build quality but after that crack i'm just scared of it. Now if i where to keep it i would have to put an ugly solid case on it to keep it from flexing. Considering returning it and getting the Note 2 since i'll have to cover it anyway.

What do you mean by, since you have to cover it anyway?? Cover what? How are you going to return a damaged phone?

I got the first one covered under warranty but they said they wouldnt cover a second one unless it was a Motorola known issue. I would have to cover it so that I don't end up cracking another one.

So they made an exception because you dropped your phone?

Maybe they made an exception because it was cracked on the inside and not cracked on the outside glass. If the break was due to a dropped phone, it would seem that the outside glass should be broke, not the inside. He guessed it cracked from flexing while it was in his pants pocket and he bent over. My opinion is if the inside glass breaks, it should be covered under warranty. I am guessing that typically Verizon doesn't cover that but I think they should, imo.
