Do you pay for new phone up front, or is it thrown on a monthly bill?

You can have it billed to you if you either go to the store, or order over the phone. However you can't have it billed if you order it online.

Not true at all. I've had it billed to me ordering online.

Ive tried to have it billed from the website. But there has never been that option. Telesales is who told me that you can't have it billed to you from their site. And since there was no option there, I beleived them. Telesales will match what ever deal is currently online.

Our credit isn't fantastic by any means and they let us bill over $500 to the brand new account.

Really seems to be no rhyme or reason...discretion of VZW CSR/employee looks to likely

I too had never heard of Verizon doing this. I know several people with T-Mobile who say thats how they do it. It's basically spread out over their monthly bill for several (12?) months.

It's not discretion. On your account it has a flag on whether or not you can bta, and the reps cannot change the flag. It appears if you have had a past due balance in the last 6 months, even if you made payment arrangements. There are a few other reasons that make it happen but that's only 1% of the time. If your are not bta eligible then the rep can not do anything to make it happen other than to transfer you to financial services and have them tell you the same thing. It has nothing to do with your credit or how many times they've made exceptions. It is set by their computer automatically

So don't wanna make any bad news for anyone but I called VZW today and talked to them. I'm going to the store to get the Razr tomorrow for my GF so I called and asked about putting the bill on my account just to make sure I'm elgible.

She said yes I'm elgible but the Razr nor the Iphone 4S can't be put on the bill cause they are new high end devices which sucks. She said the Bionic or any other phone could be. So what this means to me, when the Nexus drops and I want to put it on my bill they ain't gonna let us. Its gonna fall into the same catergory as the razr and iphone.

Sry for the bad news but just wanted everyone to have a heads up :)

From my experience, I asked this question directly, and I wasn't able to bill it to the account ENTIRELY.

I'm on the family plan but I buy my own phone, but my mother is the account holder and she has horrendous credit. Wouldn't surprise me if that factored in, but I could pretty much only split it into two payments. Half up front, and the other half was put towards the bill. So $150 up front for my Bionic, $150 two weeks later with my next pay check. The credit score thing makes more sense than just letting anyone bill a phone to their account. Also makes sense they wouldn't do it for new phones as they're only out for your money...

I billed my bionic on release day. But I could see it with the I phone. They have a different warranty plan also.

Some of you guys are like...wow.

Bill-to-account is standard in cell phone industry. It is credit contingent. Your credit is graded when you sign up and assigned a letter - usually it's like, A, B, C, and then some others that note prepaid and risk, etc.

IF you're C or above then you can charge any expense to the account up to a certain limit, which the rep can tell you if you ask. In Verizon a C is $750, that much I know.

They're not spread out, it's just added as a bulk charge. Doesn't matter if you call, go online or in store. You do need to tell them that you want to bill it to the account, they won't always proactively offer it. Applies to phones, accessories, tax etc. Discounts apply as well.

iPhone I'm not surprised. RAZR? I doubt it seriously. In fact I will go on my account right now and see if it lets me bill to the account.

EDIT: As I thought. See below...last option at the bottom.
