Droid 2.1 Update Delayed?

Hi,I just talked to a friend of mine at Motorola and she said the 2.1 updates started going out Jan. 22 at random and everybody who is on android system would get the update. She advised me to just watch the notification bar on the phone for it because it could come at anytime. So we will see.But it is being sent out now at random.:icon_ banana:
I think I had the same teacher you did.... Ms. Information :) (little play on words there :))

i feel like at least ONE person on this forum would have gotten it pushed to their phone then.

they would have. Its a farce

Well that is what I thought that at least somebody on here should have gotten it by now,but she has never lied to me yet ,so maybe it will be soon,Maybe !!!

I think that is unlikely, but I am getting annoyed nonetheless. But it has to be optimized for the droid, you say. Well, sorry, but this device is a "Google Experience" device, a much celebrated label that was advertised to mean "near immediate" release of Android OS updates. Google had a hand in the hardware, no Sense UI or other customization needed, etc - all this was supposed to mean the normal cell phone BS of delayed OS updates wasn't supposed to happen. Now here we sit 3 weeks plus from the relase of 2.1 and not only do we not have an update, we don't even have an official date for it.

When Microsoft releases a windows update it immediately goes to all PCs. As a tech guru, I expected nearly the same thing with a "Google Experience" device. Instead, its cell phone "business as usual" as we sit around waiting for when Verizon and Motorola will "bless" us with an update.

So yes, I'm disappointed. If its delayed, fine, tell us that and give us a date, don't pull this "you have a 2.0 device you aren't entitled to know when 2.1 is coming" nonsense.
It's been a few days since 2.1 was released. If Verizon changes anything at all (See: Verizon tab in Market, Visual Voicemail), it's absolutely not going to be turned around that fast. A thorough integration test better take them more than 3 days.

If you're that worried about it, root your phone and grab one of the 2.1 ROMs floating around. Otherwise, just accept that software development and testing takes time.

Edit: To the OP, Verizon didn't delay the release. Google released 2.1 the other day, Verizon/Motorola will do it whenever they're ready.

Well, I will start like this. The N1 is is amazingly light and really does have such a smooth body and curves, God I always wanted Jennifer Love Hewitt, Moving On, The Droid was built sturdier and stronger. The N1 is built to be as light and functional as possible. The hardware keyboard and the d-pad are amazing. the d-pad is not as bad as everyone thinks. The N1 dows have a better navigation due to the trackball.

Overall, the nexus is good to "play" with, the droid is good to depend, live, rely, and soley have fun. You'll See... (NatDiddy)

I second that about Jennifer Love Hewitt. Yes, moving on...
What I wish is for an update and what they are working on. I think if they did that, most people would wait little bit more.

We will get 2.1 when Google tells VZW they can release it.

From everything that I have heard, the N1 has been something of a boondoggle, with sales not where Google wants them.

Google has a vested interest in making sure the N1's sales increase, and that it's OS is stable. It's "their" phone, from what I understand., they had a major role in it's design. The Droid was designed largely by Motorola, so the profits from the Droid accrue to VZW/Motorola more so than they would from the N1. If 2.1 gets released to the Droid, by and large, an already stable device, with a good level of customer satisfaction, the consumer may decide that the Droid makes better sense, than the N1, therefore taking profits/sales away from Google. In my opinion, when they get the N1 stabilized, and the complaints pared down, and sales up, we will see the release of 2.1 to the Droid.....

Start thinking late spring, early summer.

The N1 and Droid are on 2 separate phone networks, that type of phone is in the works. Google is going to wait until the N1 comes to Verizon then release 2.1 to us? That would not make much marketing sense.

Just my opinion but with the release of 2.0.1 I think 2 things happened. First we actually had a rumor come true, and trust me in the smart phone world that's a rarity, and second it came just about 1 month after the release of the Droid itself.

Now I know Google is a whole different ball game them RIM and I'm not going to attempt to make comparisons but usually when an OS is released we are lucky to find out a few days ahead of the release, if at all. So right now there are no promises that 2.1 will be coming out soon, just that we know it's out there and will be available. Someday.:)

I'd rather let them iron out any issues with 2.1 then rush it out OTA.
It does seem plausible for VZW/Moto to hold off the update until after Apple has it's big day (Jan 27th).... this will keep some attention on VZW/Moto and Android handsets... in the rush of Apple reviews and articles that will follow the coming week :)

I do not see why VZ holds off the update until Apple reveal their new product. It's a different product. I think Moto need to do a better job here if they want their Droid to succeed.

I highly doubt Verzion is waiting till after an Apple product release to update Android on the Droid. I really believe they found a last minute critical bug and they are waiting for a patch from Google.

I am fine with waiting.. I am fine if it takes another month or two. What I am not fine with is the lack of communication. There is no reason that we can't be told what is going on. As others pointed out, the moto droid is an Android experience device, we should have updates almost immediately. So if you let us know a bug was found on Nexus and its nasty and going to take some time.. fine.. I am ok with that. Just communicate. I don't need exact date, but a periodic update every few days to a week would go a long way.

based on "my" conspiracy theory its will be release on Feb. 1st. :icon_ banana: 2.1=Feb 1st LMAO:icon_ devil: , no? or maybe on Feb 14th on Valentines day...its a great day to get a present. And its also Chinese New Year too, maybe the whole Google vs China thing?:rofl3::p

Receiving 2.1 in a red envelope sounds very enticing.

Wow

Wow know the update probally wont come till spring when it comes out for verizon because att is probally bringing in no revenue. As a matter of fact i have seen no one use a nexus one except in videos or reviews of the item, but never as a personnel use in public.
:icon_evil:

The way I see it, the last official update we had was from the Motorola Facebook page saying it would come out this "week". Assuming this "week" starts with a Sunday and ends with a Saturday we have T-Minus 24 hours.

I STILL HAVE FAITH!
