Droid 2 gets hot as soon as it boots, freezes

Hello All,
I've run into a new issue i'm not familiar with.

Basically, I felt it do the boot "bump" vibration and took my phone put of muy holster and it was really quite hot. Its the kind of hot you get when using a data heavy app, or being on the phone for an extended period or running a process intensive game. So, it apparently rebooted on its own.:icon_eek:

It starts up and is very laggy and basically freezes and immediately heats up again. Multiple restarts and battery pulls later, nothing has changed. It appears to stop when I turn airplane mode on, so maybe its an issue with the data connection constantly sending or receiving data?

I haven't done a factory wipe yet. I'll probably have to though, just to rule out some sort of OS issue. has anyone ever heard of a similar issue? I'm not sure a this point if its software of hardware thats the issue.:icon_ nono2:

Well, it seems to be better. I manually killed a lot of processes prior to the last restart, but that shouldn't have had any effect, so i'm not sure what the deal was. I had restarted it and went to airplane mode to do all my backups, then when I came out, it didn't appear to be doing it anymore. I installed a cool app called OS monitor to help me keep an eye on the processes and network traffic. Its seems pretty good. It was showing systems logs with an Buffer Overflow error that could possibly be the issue, but i'm not sure. I don't know enough about Android's Linux based OS.

I also have OS Monitor and take a look at those msg logs quite often. Seen buffer overflow many times w/ out any apparent consequences, I don't think that's anything to focus in on there too much.

I've only ever felt my D2 get hot and toasty playing an emulator the odd time. And you're not rooted...I would go ahead and try the FDR in that case. As stock as you are, sounds t/m like it's hardware or you have a seriously insulated holster. :icon_eek:

Thanks for the reply. The holster is fins. It well ventilated and i've used it for this phone and the last. Something was running an making it hot, I just can't tell what it is. I think you're right about the ignoniring thos particular errors. The last time it started freezing up and heating again, I didn't see the same errors.

I did notice k-9 always rying to sync when this was happening, though it could be coincidence. Its just have been time for it to sync and it neve could because of the issue. I removed it and my phone has been ok for the last few hours. I'm going to load it again tomorrow and see if I can recreate the problem.

This is just a hard one to nail down and I don't want to have verizon give me a used one if all it is is a corrupted OS or corrupted program that a wipe will fix. I'll follow up on this tommorrow. (or later today I guess since its just after midnight!)
