Droid 2 Global Unboxing PICS

Did they give any idea on how long til they get unlock codes? I'll pop in a friend's ATT sim once I can unlock mine.
I just called back and got a different rep who was super friendly...she spent probably a good 10-15 minutes checking for the codes but eventually realized that the code generator for the device wasn't available yet...BUT she asked when I was going abroad (end of this month) so she's calling me back in two weeks, hopefully with better news.

So for now we are stuck being locked but hopefully there will be progress soon!

Ok time to attempt to root :p

Who's going to try the original Droid 2's Rooting method?

Didn't work :(
I tried both the manual and one-click methods (I've rooted many Droid 1s, one Droid 2, and one Droid X, so I'm very comfortable with adb and such) but they both got stuck halfway in. I'll see if I can find the developers on another forum and ask if they might be able to figure out a workaround.

Also I just noticed that Google Voice doesn't seem to be available in the Market for this phone. Hmm.

No root, missing apps from the market, no unlock codes...sheesh. This is the problem with being the first batch to have a phone...you end up having to deal with all the kinks :p

EDIT: Nevermind about Google Voice, just found the QR code and scanned it in, silly me

Congrats! Just joining the Droid community...going to order my Droid 2 Global tomorrow. I was hoping they'd release it in black (with all the rumors and all), but I think I'd prefer the dark blue over the white one. I've been waiting since early September when they were going to release the R2D2, but held out for this. Looking forward to this community!

So I ended up reading on another forum that someone else called in today and had no problem getting the unlock code...so I called back a third time and sure enough the lady was able to get me one that worked!

It turns out they don't have the actual 'procedure' yet, but as long as you can get to the SIM unlock screen yourself, then they can give you the code (and you just need to put in a non-VZW SIM and turn the phone back on to get the SIM unlock screen)

So...Droid 2 Global unlock codes are indeed available :)

ok have looked at your pics and i dont see much difference between this one and the regular dorid 2. I have the regular droiid 2 i got it when it came out in auguust in fact i preordered it and got it the day it was released anyway is this phoine any faster becasue i know it has a 1.2ghz processor. I DONT leave the untied states so im NOT worried so much about global calling but am wondering strictly from a processor speed point of view and also a keyboard point of view is the keybaord any better than the one on the droid 2 glkobal. MY sister in law is eligable for an upgrade and i sent her some information on this phone and the droid 2 off of vzw's website i hope she picks the best one but what way should she go she stays in the United States also and uses the phone for videos, pics, texting etc in my opinion she would be betetr off with the regular dorid 2 BUT am open to others comments

If your sister-in-law only leaves the USA rarely or not at all, then tell her to stick with the regular Droid 2. The software is essentially identical and the processor speed bump and global roaming capability are probably not worth the extra $50 for her.

Congratulations

Congrats SGMD1, I wish if you could help me , I am a droid fan too but I reside in Bombay, India. Could you please guide me on how can I purchase this phone. If need be please send me an email on [email protected] , I will be really greatfull to you.

The Droid 2 Global probably isn't your best option since right now it can only be purchased from Verizon in the USA as far as I know, but if you want just a GSM-capable version (rather than GSM + CDMA) then I would recommend the Motorola Milestone 2, which is probably easier for you to obtain as well, and essentially the exact same phone as the Droid 2, except it uses GSM instead of CDMA so it will work on Indian networks.

Milestone 2 - Android smart phone - WiFi hotspot connectivity - Overview - Motorola Western Europe
