Droid 2 Global Unlock & foreign SIM?

I hate to bring the bad news to you, but if you can't get the seller obtain the codes for you from Verizon, you will be stuck with a nice PDA.
What happened is Verizon altered the unlock codes of some D2g's so only they know the right code. They will provide the code free of charge, but certain criteria must be met. Since you are not Verizon client with a postpaid account with a good account standing for at least 6 months, you are not eligible.
If the ebay seller refuses to cooperate, you can dispute the transaction if it was stated phone comes unlocked. If you can return it, buy another one, but make sure you pick one that states is SIM unlocked for networks outside USA. Or better get Milestone 2 that is good for your region.
Good luck!

Did you even read my reply? some D2G's have the code altered. If the code was altered, no online unlocker can help you, no matter what price you pay. BTW codes you can buy as low as $5, £20 is plain robbery. If code from one unlocker fails, it is pointless to try another one. This means code was altered and Verizon Wireless is your only hope.

Motorola Droid 2 Global

Hello,

I have the same problem with Motorola Droid 2 Global. I bought it on ebay and the phone was sent to Peru. I inserted my carrier SIM card and show me the message "SIM network unlock PIN" so I bought an unlock code from Carrierunlock.com but the code never worked.

Why didn't the code work? and what should I do in that case?

Thanks in advance.

I bought my D2G from amazon. it was still locked and I bought unlock code from the following and it worked.
[h=3]TheUnlockShack.com [/h]
called Verizon when I was in NYC in April they said I have to have plan that cost $70 a month to cover $40 for the phone and $30 for the data plan. that was the cheapest and I have to have it active for 60 days before they can give me the unlock code. that would turn into almost $200 with activation charge. instead I paid less than $( US dollars and it worked first time.
Good Luck

I have a global here in mexico and works with the gsm and cdma carriers here. If fact I have an account with both but I use gsm usually.. works excellently no rooting,,

The seller went to Verizon and asked for the unlock code and they said to him that the phone is not locked in any way and the phone is useless if I am not Verizon costumer. They said it won't work on a network other than VZW.

That is so sad because I never noticed it before to buy the phone.

This statement is not true. Phone is locked to Verizon Wireless (Vodaphone NL sim card inside). Phone requires 8 digit unlock code in order to allow use of other SIM cards than the one that Verizon's preinstalled one. Phone will work on other GSM/WCDMA networks that operate on 850/1900/2100 (3G) and 850/900/1800/1900 (GSM) bands across the world.

Verizon CSR's are known to give bull.. statements like the one above. Either the seller is not cooperative or he/she just got to uneducated CSR. If the auction says "Unlocked" phone - you have a case to open dispute, because phone is locked. There are no factory unlocked Droid 2 Global's ever made. Do not let this go - pursue your rights!

So what do you suggest? the seller have to push Verizon in order to get the unlock code? The auction did not say "unlocked phone" so I can not dispute that.

Well said and you are absolutely correct. Except for the last statement saying no factory unlocked D2g were ever made. They were made you just can not get them threw normal channels is all as I owned one before selling it to a family member who uses it on AT&T in the states. IE the device was not bought from VZW or Moto direct but was unlcoked from the get go wiht a prepaid SIM card in it

Have seller call Verizon Global Support: 1(800)922-0204 or 1(908)559-4899 (if calling from outside USA) and request unlock code for the phone. He must have phone activated on his account, his account must be postpaid and must have been in good standing for at least 60 days - this means bills paid on time etc etc. He does not need the phone in hand to activate it - he just needs the phone MEID number (so you don't need to send the phone over back to him). Once all this is met, Verizon Global Support will give him the unlock code. Then you get the phone, put a foreign SIM in it - when phone asks for the code - you punch it in (it must be 8 digit one) Verizon may give up to 3 codes. At least one will work.
Good luck!

But in the store told him the phone is not locked anyway. So I don't know if he call they will give him an unlock code.

You can remove the protection out of any D2G and use it on AT&T or T-Mobile. There are caveats however (You must use the phone with the oldest available firmware - 2.4.29). This can be done to any consumer D2G. If your friend has development D2G which can be flashed with unsigned versions of radio baseband, then this is different story. Development devices are not available to the public. I tend to disagree with you that there are retail devices that were not locked to Verizon. Verizon is the exclusive provider for this phone and will remain such. Motorola made all consumer D2g's locked to Verizon.

But in the store told him the phone is not locked anyway. So I don't know if he call they will give him an unlock code.

Stores won't help in this case. Have him call the number I provided. This is the right (the only) place in Verizon where he can request the codes.
