DROID coming to China / OPhone MT710

Just some details for you guys from China. The phone has been released and has relatively the same hardware specs as droid except only comes with a 4Gig SD card. Its UI, called ophone is built on top of android 1.5 much like sense UI to accomodate chinese users . Here is the kicker, it costs 5500RMB, which is roughly 800USD. Arent you glad you live in the good old USA?

Thanks for the Info, lil pricey for me! I know when I lived in Japan, the Cell phone plans were ridiculously priced for what minutes you got. This was before texting was all that popular. Phone is sleek, but I wont be trading my :motdroidhoriz: for awhile! Well atleast til my upgrade is due... LOL

Other info I have found as a developer.. it has it's own Market for apps in China. I could be wrong on this..but it would make sense.. I am guessing most of the users in China speak/read chinese and thus American/english apps wouldn't make much sense. However, I am so far bummed to find out it will be difficult for us American developers to put our apps up on the oPhone market. I've not looked lately, but last I read it wasn't going to be easy. Barring the obvious... localizing the text in english apps to chinese, I would have thought there would be some way to reach that market for any app. The thought that my app could also be on the oPhone market and reach another potentially 500 million customers would be amazing! If anyone has info on this issue.. if they china customers can get to our market, or some other info on this, please post it.

Current Politics are scary , Google is pissed at China , trying to hack into Google and Motorola is caught up in the middle , so if China continues Google will pull out and that will hurt Motorola , well the whole globe as well .

I do not think it would hurt Motorola because China is not the only manufacturer and I am sure Motorola has other factories around the world.

Hmmm?

Just because this new handset runs an Android OS doesn't make it a DROID, and to be quite honest, this doesn't resemble the Android OS in the least.

Frankly, I'm not really into this Moto smartphone, and find the (actual) DROID much more appealing.

DROID can be a general term for the Android OS. The term was kicking around long before Motorola was building the Droid. If it's running Android, custom UI or not, it's still running DROID

China Mobile has it's own Android-based system called Open Phone System, which i'd say is basically something akin to an entire OS skin. That's why it looks nothing like Android.
