Droid Does turning 7

Now, is it very difficult for a developer to root or unlock a bootloader. Also to make a ROM. Verizon has it down on what to do. I have found developers walking away ad it takes more o then they have to put into it. I would love to go back to the Droid and use it. But I would loose my unlimited 4g if I go back to a 3g phone.

Nostalgia is nice, but I remember picking up my droid 2 and thunderbolt just a year back and frustrated with just how slow they felt. Plus with the older droids they are almost useless given Google have changed so much. The reality is that when we were rocking our devices overclocked to egg cooking temperatures we were imagining phones with computer specs. Here we are now with mid-end devices with those specs and high end devices blowing the tops off.

Though I miss those days for nostalgia purposes I think the reality is we are happy where we are at (at least I am). I like having a phone that out of the box have all the features I want/need in a phone without having to overclock or add a rom to make up for what is missing. I kept my Nexus 5 to be my rom flashing phone and have gone several months without even turning it on. I dont have the heart to want to go through setting my phone up every time I flash a rom or chasing an update to fix what is broken. My "Rom" these days are flashing google's beta software on my nexus 6.

Agree but I swear the first Droid with the first Gorilla Glass was built like a tank. That screen was damn near shatterproof. I'm sure the thickness of the phone was a factor, but that thing was built...like a brick.
We had to return one to Assurion and I can't remember the specifics, but it was a sporadic problem and our warranty rep at the time suggested just breaking the screen.
I beat the snot out of that phone, several people did. Slamming it on the corners of desks, dropping it on the kitchen floor. It simply wouldn't break. It took a 3 story drop of the balcony to get it to break.
What happened??!? :D

Yes, I completely agree. Droid 1 or The OG Droid was a tank. I had no problems with that phone. What happen is manufacturers are making the phone casing cheaper with the look of durability. They are putting more money into the guts if the phone than the case and screen. Turbo 2 screen is shatter proof but the screen will blemish. If they took say the Turbo and made it like the OG Droid. That would be e great phone for a long time. Heck the phones now are powerful as computers of not more. At least we have memories.

Agree. But back when we bought the Droid we bought those phones looking to hold on to them for awhile. Similar to cars back in the day (so my parents and grandparents say). But now we are in an era where the avg life span a person keeps a phone is 1.25-1.5 years, manufacturers are spending less time on building it to last and more time on building it to awe.

I loved my BB and refused to get a Droid until the Droid 2 Global was released and I noticed how well you could play emulators on it... that was what pushed me over the edge... then I started rooting and romming my devices and was hooked..

D2G > Bionic > Razr > Razr Maxx > Note 2 (had this for nearly 4 years) > and Currently the Moto X Pure, I haven't rooted it yet because I don't need to... I love it and it does NEARLY everything I need it to... my Nexus 7 is rooted and does what I need.

Mitsubishi trans portable phone.
Brick phone.
Moto plip
Razr.
A few other small flip phones.
Blackberry.
Droidx (loved this one)
Droid razr.
Note2
Note4 current cell.

Actually disagree with this. It was new then. We didn't know what we were buying. Lol.

So funny to see this thread because the other day I came across my og droid box while I was cleaning out my closet.

I have to say, I loved my og droid but liked the Dinc and loved my Maxx. Og Droid is the winner though. It is what brought me to DF because I heard rumors you could root it and do amazing things once it was rooted & DF is where I learned to root & rom. That og droid went through four people in my family.
