Have you actually seen the update yet? I just got that same email (for my wife's phone), but she hasn't seen the update yet. She is running the first leak that came out, so I'm a little concerned that it may not come down.
I would say a LARGE percentage of people, you got lucky. My phone worked fine with 1.5, then I did the update, totally screwed my phone up. Nothing worked right so Verizon sent me a refurb. Got it yesterday and after activating it, the update showed up so I downloaded it. Once I did the phone's earpiece quit working. So my third phone should be here today and Verizon told me NOT to do the update until they get the software bugs fixed.

Interesting. Again, my phone, knock on wood, is fully functional, and I am really liking the extended battery life that 2.1 provides. Not to mention the ability to dim the screen which even further extended my battery life.
Me and my friend got Droid Eris's right when they came out. It was my favorite phone so far (after owning a blackberry and an iphone), but once I did the 2.1 update it was like downloading a virus directly on to my phone.
There is a lot of slowness, freezing, and blacking out. The phone sometimes scrolls left automatically. Can't believe that I have lived with this bugginess for months. Verizon tech support was no help. I am performing the factory reset and we will see if that does much.
